On 4 June 2021, she was critically injured in New York City, USA when she was struck in a hit and run by a motorized scooter which drove through a red light while she was crossing Amsterdam Avenue near West 64th Street in Manhattan while on her way to her alma mater, The Juilliard School. She suffered a traumatic brain injury and was unable to recover, dying on 14 June 2021.
