Grace and Gravity

I think this film isn't about Christianity as Faith and the role It takes in disaster. It really seems to me to have been a script possibly written with all the hallmarks of a great stage play. It's basically a 1 hour dialogue between 2 strangers. Plus some flashbacks. The budget is clearly very low. But once you accept that they are trying hard to breathe life into a great script you can forgive it. Given thr budget the acting is surprisingly good (you really feel the stages of the relationship between two men change and deepen - no easy task) and the flash backs are very well directed. And it has numerous genuine twists and turns show an truly excellent and clever script. Good film. My wife was tired she refused to go to bed til the end (and she never does that.)

This is a low budget Christian film that punches well above it's weight. If you saw Sunset Limited with Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson and liked it, then you might like this. Grace and Gravity steers away from the horrible pitfalls of other Christian films, such as God's Not Dead, by giving the atheist character a real sense of intelligence and biblical knowledge, so that the conversation is never one-sided. It's not about a Christian character "saving" the poor little atheist. It's more a film about two very broken people helping to fix each other through the building up of a relationship. Yes, this does mean lots of talk about biblical matters, but it's done in a very natural and grounded way through good old fashioned character development and not by beating you over the head with it's theology. If you hate religion or Christianity, then this probably ain't for you. But I don't see the point in coming to a film with the express purpose of being able to write it off. If, however, you are someone who is able to approach things with a more open mind, then you might just find much here to enjoy.

I gave this 3 stars for a few decent jokes it had. All in all, very poorly written, acted and filmed. It was made as a propaganda movie, but it doesn't understands the basic concepts of the atheism it was made to preach against. If the point was to bring the unbelievers to faith, it fails. Only made for the entertainment of hardcore believers.

This film is mature in light of many other Christian drama films, most of which are weak attempts at evangelism disguised with a thin veneer of a storyline to dress it up.

I found this film confronting and surprisingly mature. I'm tired of the cookie-cutter evangelism rhetoric that is so prevalent in Christian society. At first you encounter John, who seems to have completed some training course in how to share his faith. He meets Chris, a depressed ex-pastor who has lost his faith in God. John pulls out the old "one-two punch" evangelism model, presenting a flimsy message about how God will give Chris peace and hope etc.

Then he discovers more about Chris, who he is, and what he has been through. He comes to realise that textbook answers just don't cut it in the face of real life. What follows from there is ... well you'll have to check it out for yourself.

This movie challenges some of the "easy answers" and cliches many Christians try to throw at life's real problems, such as mental health, relationships, family, etc. It shows vividly that Christians don't have all the answers - and even though we know the One who does, that doesn't become a simple solution to life's problems.

A hard-hitting film about life, love, family, faith, death, and God. A razzle-dazzle big-budget Hollywood blockbuster this ain't. But it does confront some of the mindsets of today's Christian thought and reason. Check it out. I'm glad I did.

It was enjoyable if you watch this movie knowing it's not a high budget film. If your looking for a enlightening meaning to life and a better understanding of the meaning of god, you will be disappointed ( other reviewers). It was a different approach to a Christian movie. In the end, we enjoyed it.
