Rated 2 just because I kinda liked one of the songs thassit !!
Honestly, its very dull movie. How can a movie so dull and boring? I mean nothing good in the movie. No storyline, no good dialogue , unnecessary song just for sake of it, bad cinematography, just waste of money. Bollywood what is happening ???? where are good horror movies in India?
That same story, horrible acting. Why should our paisa for that kind of horrible experience. Just watch manikarnika again instead.
Amavas is an awkward, primitive and farcical genre mashup of horror/mystery/musical that misses the mark on all three, ending up more of a comedy. My expectations were low after last year's Bhaagamathie but happily this was a slight improvement. The horror element consisted of repetitive inconsequential loud jump scares. Its spooky atmosphere kind of worked but was ruined by the actors' inability to convey genuine fear. Acting was mostly sub-par especially from the deadpan male lead and annoying comedic butler. Songs seemed out of place and unnecessary like a bad musical. The story was laughably contrived with twists that felt like total afterthoughts. In the second act there is a prolonged flashback sequence of drama and romance that felt like a cheap soap opera. On the plus side the two leading ladies were drop-dead gorgeous, some of the jump scares worked and the catchy club dance number in the middle had me tapping my toes. 3/10.
Sachin joshi & Nargis Fhakry..!!!
Sachiin Joshi (who also produces the film) and Nargis Fakhri are a couple facing some problems because well, he hears things. You know, like a schizophrenic...
Mona Singh as the resident psychiatrist (she has only one patient, and the paycheck, if that patient is Sachiin Joshi, is enough to pay all her bills, and then some more)
For most of the film, Joshi and Fakhri look very unhappy with each other. "no chemistry"..!
The first half has a series of painfully awkward scenes including a dinner date outdoors that sees Fakhri act like an overgrown child. She's dressed as a femme fatale and runs into the woods, telling him to catch her as she plays hide-and-seek.
The usual horror tropes like chairs rocking on their own, creaking doors and ghosts watching you as you sleep are all there. Does it startle you? No. Does it make you cackle? Yes.
'Amavas' is unintentionally funny instead of being scary..... ,.. mostly because Fakhri and Joshi are unable to breathe life into a string of lifeless dialogues.
The movie has nothing new to offer in terms of a storyline. Bad acting, coupled with a flimsy plot makes this a wretched viewing experience.
The VFX aren't shabby, but they are tedious. Watching a ghost turn into a flesh-eating, blood-thirsty beast with crazy eyes gets boring after it's repeated more than once.
At one point, Fakhri's character Ahana frustratingly claims she doesn't understand what's going on in that castle anymore. Well, same goes for the people watching the movie..!!
