Esmeralda

I've seen this short film several times at three different film festivals and fell in love with this story of... love. Take a quirky character like Wilbur Goodnight, an unrequited love story of a childhood crush, a mockumentary; and wrap it all up in a cleverly delivered, beautifully shot, funny and warm short film and you have Esmeralda. If you watch films to feel good, then you'll love this film. This short film "documents" the student-film efforts of a young woman named Patty. Her "film within the film" follows our "hero" Wilbur Goodnight, who is on a mission to find his childhood crush and surprise her with his admiration, at a poetry jam. It's funny and heartwarming, and best of all... entertaining on multiple levels. Congrats to the film-makers who expertly executed the mockumentary genre in a new and unusual way!

This short was so heartwarming. I loved the flashbacks to childhood and the reminder there is knights in shining armor still around. And the scene at the end of Wilbur's gives me chills every time I've watched it. I love this short film more every time I watch it. Well done.
