A husband can not sleep with his wife, because (unknown to him) she runs a hotel mainly for single men; I did not encounter this idea before. It may sound banal, but out of this idea comes a very pleasurable, crazy, original, well-written and fast-paced comedy with funny events and mix-ups and good dialogue. What a shame that not a director with a more personal style directed this one; John Reinhardt's direction is well enough, but lacks a certain extra to take every possibility out of the script and also to make it more refined as film. Now we have an enjoyable film, that could (and should) have been a better one.
So it is entirely up to the cast to carry this film; no complaints here: all members are splendid and have enormous fun. Until now I did not know that Curd Jürgens could be hysterically funny, while Winnie Markus dominates the film very easy with her comic talents (and of course her beauty). Of the supporting cast it is Helen Vita who stands out: with her voice and gestures she constantly gives her scenes that feeling of not fulfilled eroticism.
The film music of Franz Grothe, one of Germany's most important film composers, is again wonderful.
