Chile: Hasta Cuando?

David Bradbury's Academy Award-nominated "Chile: Hasta Cuando?" ("Chile: When Will It End?" in English) was the result of the filmmaker and his associates entering the country under the pretense of filming a music festival, while they actually came to document Augusto Pinochet's human rights abuses. The documentary features interviews with those targeted by Pinochet's forces, and even shows footage of his supporters spouting typical right-wing stuff.

It's probably worth mentioning that Chile's oligarchy created a coup climate by refusing to stock food in the stores, thereby convincing people that Salvador Allende couldn't govern (along with Nixon's call for making Chile's economy "scream"). The one thing that Pinochet didn't manage to privatize was building codes (which is why the 2010 earthquake in Chile caused little destruction).

In an interview with Oliver Stone for the documentary "South of the Border", Hugo Chávez said that the US has never had a coup because there's no US embassy in Washington. The US saw an attempted coup in January 2021 that failed due to the incompetence of the people trying to invade the Capitol Building.

Anyway, this is definitely a documentary that everyone should see.
