Bittersweet Waters

I loved this partly because of its universality. The story the film recounts is played out daily in probably millions of relationships all over the world. It's liable to have, in fact certainly has happened in the progressive countries of western Europe to my personal knowledge. How much harder it was for Diego and Atl in a backwater, traditional town in rural Mexico.

The acting was top notch from all of the participants and their characters, motivations and actions were believable. Jesus Canchola Sanchez kept a tight rein on proceedings as writer, director and leading man. The actors he chose to star in the film were simply perfect for their roles. This was an exceedingly impressive debut feature.

My eyes didn't flicker once from the screen even once while I watched this. I half wanted it not to end, but when it did, the sense of a conclusion was fulfilling. I'm glad the bus left when it did. No histrionics and a real cut-off point. We are left to wonder about the future lives of the people who'd held our attention for the previous ninety minutes.

I liked the movie overall. It was beautiful, human, sad, outrageous and normal, Simultaneously. The storyline is an all too familiar struggle for gay men worldwide. The ending was most powerful and poignant.
