... since I am one. And, believe it or not, all of us started out as children. Plus, if anyone has earned the right to take back this role, even if only for a sparkly 90 minutes, it would be Johnson. Who practically invented a character we now take for granted in series after series, and movie after movie. (Just like 86 year old Bob Joyce, who astonishingly still has most of his vocal range, has earned the right to sing Elvis songs whenever he darn well wishes). Viewers hoping for Citizen Kane will be disappointed. Fans looking for solid nostalgia will love this film. To date, however, the best recycling of once top-tier talent remains Jackie Chan's The Foreigner (2017). A truly astonishing film.
People need to lighten up. So what if Don is 70+. It feels like a long episode of Nash bridges. Nothing too sophisticated just a mysterious police case to be solved. And lots of nostalgia from Nash and his partner. Overall a nice watch.
I was really hoping to see a remake of this series as the original was one of my all time favorites. As far as the characters go it was great. What I did not appreciate were the gaping plot holes. I'm sure there was more to this that was cut out to fit a time slot. If this had been split into two 2-hour shows it would have worked a lot better. The parts that were missing would have made the whole story work better. It's hard to get into something when you get lost in the first 30 minutes.
It's standard TV fare - felt just like an NB episode. It's always fun to see SF on TV because it's much cleaner than in real life. You definitely have to suspend belief - Cheech and Don are a lil too old and the attempts at trying to be up to date are definitely CBS quality. I wish there had been a Cassidy cameo and Nash would have been a lot more upset about the Cuda getting destroyed. All in all, fun for fan of the orig series like me😄😄😄
Don't they have Continuity people for these projects?
The timeline was totally screwed up. They never established how long it was after the end of the series, which in actual time was 20 years. They had Nash and Joe being partners 25 years, which they were during the run of series. They ignored that Nash was a Captain and Joe was a Lieutenant at end of series, so why is he taking orders from another Captain? If Nash was demoted he would've walked. Nash knew the Captain in the movie 30 years, yet that was from when she and Cassidy were in Police Academy together, which would've been long before the series. Towards end Joe is talking about going on a date. Did Inger pass, or were her and Joe divorced? Also didn't care for gratuitous destruction of the 'Cuda. Would expect it not to have lasted 50 years. When it was a car with daily wear and tear
For the few positives, they did mention what Cassidy was up to, being in Army Intelligence. Nash's flirtation with the Police Dept. Shrink ( Would be curious to know if Nash now had more ex-wives than NCIS's Jethro Gibbs?). Butting heads with Steven Colton, the young stick up his ass know it all.
What they should have done was have Nash and Joe retired, still running the Bridges and Dominguez Detective Agency and being Consultants to the SFPD. Looks like Nash won't return as a series again, as was hoped for. Maybe someone will reboot Spenser For Hire and get it right.
