Inside the Rain

This movie is not for everyone. I think you have to appreciate knowing what it is like have a less than mentally stable life. This is a well done movie in my opinion. I appreciate the humour. Some may miss the point. Great acting! Love the ending! Fantastic soundtrack.

Ben Glass (Aaron Fisher) has mental issues. He's threatened with expulsion from film school after a second incident. He decides to make a film to plea his case. He recruits model and sometimes porn actress Emma Taylor. He's under the care of psychiatrist Dr. Holloway (Rosie Perez). Out of work actor Monty Pennington (Eric Roberts) is eager to join the ragtag group.

I'm going to guess that there are elements of autobiography in this story from Aaron Fisher. He obviously wrote this with comedic tones. The problem is that Aaron is no comedian. He can't even deadpan this material. He has a dangerous anger in him that puts the movie on edge. He needs a real actor who is good at comedy to play the lead. If he needs to play the lead, the only tone available would be dark and dramatic. Even then, I'm not sure if he's lead actor material.

It was actually a fun watch. It moved nicely and the story was fun to watch. I think Aaron Fisher did a great job in writing/directing/acting. Rosie Perez played a great role. Maybe Eric Roberts wasn't needed in this movie and only put in for name recognition. I rated 5 out of 10 because it was watchable and put together well and I rate very low on movies.

A fair amount of screen time centered on a male college student's interest in sex & romance which shouldn't be surprising. As to his mental state perhaps a little spectrum disorder; a little bipolar; a little of a bunch of other issues, but none too egregious. Then too, we don't know how much his medications were moderating it all. I liked the parental love & support. The counseling sessions seemed movie dramatic.

Inside the Rain tells the story of Ben Glass (portrayed by Aaron Fisher who also directed the film) who is a college student that suffers from bipolar disorder, depression, and OCD that is expelled from school after he is wrongly accused of being suicidal. Ben decides to appeal his expulsion and decides the way to do so is to make a film of the events that occurred to show his innocence. He then gets pornstar/artist Emma Taylor (portrayed by Ellen Toland) and failed film producer Montgomery (portrayed by Eric Roberts) to help him create the film.

Inside the Rain is interesting as it tells the story of those who suffer from mental health issues in the perspective of the individual who is suffering from them. I thought Ben's character was very authentic and the film portrays the difficulties of suffering from mental health issues.

My issue with the film is that the story is not all that great. I found myself bored most of the film as it is has very slow moments. It's not the type of film that I believe has a lot of rewatch value. I also did not think the acting was great. There were not any individuals who gave a memorable performance.

For these reasons I would say the film is slightly below average - 4/10.
