Am I OK?

Lucy (Dakota Johnson) and Jane (Soyona Mizuno) are best friends but Lucy is hiding a huge secret from Jane... I will watch anything with Dakota Johnson in and she does not disappoint in this film. She plays best friend to Jane but they have a falling out and during their 'break' Lucy finds out something life changing. But Jane is going to London to work so they will be split up.

It's kind of a bestie film and a romcom and a coming of age all in one. But the dialogue is really on point and mature. Tig Notaro co-produced, co-directed and starred in the film and it certainly has her style of comedy stamped onto it. There are some real "Awwwww" moments but some real laugh out loud moments too as the two girls -with other people orbiting their lives- navigate their way through huge changes in their lives.

I really enjoyed it one rainy evening and give it a solid 6 for great entertainment and real life issues.

I'm a massive Tig Notaro fan, so I have been waiting for this to come out for a long time. I was so excited for this.

The movie is OK. It's not bad by any means, but it's not great either. It just didn't have anything particularly memorable or noteworthy to mention.

The best part was the Tig cameo.

I think I was expecting a lot more from this, but it sort of felt like it just never peaked.

I know a lot of people didn't like Dakota, but I didn't see anything particularly wrong with her in the movie. I'm not sure anyone else could've made this any better than it was. It's just an OK movie.

Again, it's not bad, it's just not as good as I had hoped.

I know the description for this movie is about the character's journey with coming out but I got to say the tru winner here is the depiction of female friendship, specially between and introvert and an extrovert. I found it so funny and light and cute and special. And who knew Dakota can actually act when given good material and I'm glad we finally see her comedy chops. A darling movie to watch when you miss your friends and feel like a pick me up. Oh also the coming out is so real and I'm glad you can see a less vía actually wrote it. Anyway I loved the movie and would recommend it to people that like this type of light fun movies.

I like when films dare to talk about things that are rarely discussed in the cinema. Someone trying to figure out their sexual inclination and having their first brushes with the consequences of their decisions is quite interesting to watch. All of this elevated Am I Ok? To a promising film. And I say elevated, in the past tense, because then the script turns towards a lighter path, stained by the comedy and drama that we can normally see on every sidewalk, on every corner. It was a good start, for a lukewarm ending.

The performances could have been better. Dakota Johnson has never been a great exponent of her type of work. I celebrate the edition, but I object to the poor choices regarding the soundtrack and costumes.

Final thoughts, good movie if you're looking for something quiet that will provoke some conversations to reflect on, but it's not anthropological philosophy either. Decent movie.

The lines "I think it's because you're afraid of getting close to someone for fear of rejection", but also "that's so lezz", are uttered in this movie.

Never too late to change your life's direction.. or to ponder in anxiety if where you are is right or not. You may think you have everything under control, only to soon be reminded that you just don't. But not-so-believable super friendships is always a start.

The movie feels "soft", and a tad obvious (or is it?), but the ending was fresher than I expected.

It certainly has a gloomy feeling (that is most probably on purpose), and a relatable "awkwardness in life" from the lead.. so I'd say it is well done! It accomplishes what it sets out to do.. although not sure about the strength of the message or even the way it delivers it. It's enjoyable, in a way, but not memorable at all. I'm feeling a "Beast of the Night" (by CATBEAR) out of 10.
