Production value gets the second star. And some acting is not too bad as well. But thats about it The rest is just awful. Awful dialogues, awful music. Awful clichees. Even writing about it feels awful, so I shall stop now.

It was an interesting series, the role playings are good. Its story refers to different aspects of World War II, which are less discussed in other films and series.

It is good to look at the war, its aspects, and its effects from the point of view of the German people.

Of course, the entire series is full of alcohol and cheating :)) Now I understand why Germany is among the most adulterous countries, with high divorces.

The point that is well shown in this series is the simplicity and patriotism and law-abidingness among the German people, which almost explains why they continued the Second World War and did not realize that it was wrong. From this aspect, this series makes you have a more positive view of Germans.

Great character development, brilliant acting, lots of surprises in the plot (which I will not give away here! :) make this TV series a pure piece of joy. I wish there was more like that in German TV these days! What I like most is, that each character has some depth, struggles, and finds its way to its "true self" - one way or the other; like mentioned, I will not give out any spoilers... ;)

I like pretty much everything.

They succeed to transport us to the 40' 50' era. Good photography, with good choice of colours, and very good production. Good performance of all in main or support.

A nice plot with a great sense of human life, where people make mistakes and learn from them.

The historic part it's also good and allow the viewer to understand how Germany dealt with post WWII.

Another one of those German masterpieces that distinguishes itself from shallow Hollywood, by recreating an authentic drama to reflect on the post war times in Germany. Unlike, typical Movies that have 1-2 actors in the main role, this one has 5 very strong characters, each of them tasked to tell the unique situations of people living at that time.

I am not giving any spoilers, you have to watch this movie if you like movies that have some true depth. If you are a fan of shallow Hollywood soaps then this movie won't be for you.
