Lolo

A beautiful portrait of friendship. Touching, seductive, amusing and just fair. Three 11 old years friends . And their world, dilemmas, searches, questions and experiments. In final, the wise way to be themselves So, just beautiful . Maybe, like each reasonable slice from the life of contemporary so different kids of today.

This was utterly dire. I saw this as part of a "Male Gaze" compilation called "Hide and Seek". "Lolo" might appeal to a certain flamboyant audience but not to me or the majority of the people it's presumably aimed at. Additionally, it made me queasy to see young children speaking such sexualised language and portrayed as sexual beings. This was right off the scale in terms of prurience for an audience that certainly doesn't include me. As a former social worker, hearing young children speak like this would have raised red flags about possible abuse in any social services office. I'm horrified the film was even made. That another reviewer can say that such a film is "seductive" has alarm bells ringing in my mind.

This is about a boy, Lolo, who is attracted to another boy and what this means for him. The other boy is concerned that Logo may be too flamboyant, although he really isn't compared to Lolo's other friend. It's also about his close friendships with a different boy and a girl his age. The characters are well defined and explored, which is surprising for such a short film. There isn't anything sexual or prurient about this film. If you are a conservative Christian, then you would likely find it uncomfortable or offensive. If, however, you are open-minded and have some understanding of children and their development, you will find this exploration of friendship endearing.
