Being a fan of all things zombie, I had to give this movie a good. I had never heard about it prior to picking it up, so I had no expectations to it, nor did I have any idea what was in store.
The story is pretty average and straight forward for a zombie movie, depicting a couple of people trapped in the middle of a chaotic outbreak of the living dead. So there is nothing new to be seen here.
Now, one thing did puzzle me about this movie, once people were bitten, they turned into rotted cadavers within minutes. Are you kidding me? That car dealer guy was bitten by a zombie, and within minutes his body was decayed and in bad decay. That was just awful to look at, and that really made the movie come off stupid in a way. And zombies climbing over fences and running around as mobile and dexterous as they were in their former lives? No, not really working for me.
The effects in the movie weren't all that bad, but they weren't super great either. But for a movie of this caliber and budget I do think it was adequate. However, I would personally have liked to seen better gore and more believable effects.
As for the cast in the movie, well I had never heard about any one here, nor seen them in other movies - or at least that I can remember. Don't expect award-winning performances here though. However, I will say that the people weren't bad, compared to other low budget movies.
"Silent Night, Zombie Night" didn't really leave a lasting impression on me, and I am a big fan of zombie movies, literature, etc. There is far better zombie movies out there available wherever you turn - even far better low budget zombie movies as well. But I have seen it now and it is another notch in the belt of watched zombie movies. However, I can honestly say that I will not be making a second trip back to this movie.
