In Search of Alfred the Great

What do you know about King Alfred; he burned the cakes...and? This documentary runs to just under forty minutes but will tell you all you ever wanted to know about Alfred The Great, which is a surprising amount, certainly a lot more than many more recent monarchs of these islands, including his precise date of death. Alfred died at what is today the relatively young age of fifty, not so then, but in that time he carved out a substantial legacy as a warrior, an administrator, and an educator.

Not mentioned here is his elevation to sainthood, probably because this claim is far from universally recognised.
