Huss

This is a clever show centred around a rookie, Katarina Huss, played by Karin Franz Korlov, wherein she grapples with many ethical problems that confront her as a policewoman. The cast is exceptional especially Anders Berg and Filip Berg. I don't think they are related but they are really great actors who play their characters so well. This is a very engrossing series because as a rookie, Katarina has to learn fast and really question her values and her integrity along the way. It never fails to address the hard issues that confront police officers every day in the carrying out of their duties and after watching it, I was more aware of what these difficulties are in being a good, as opposed to a bad, police officer. This is a great addition to the world of televised police dramas.

Can anyone explain to me exactly why the Riots and their aftermath is so pivotal in Huss? I got quite confused as to the relevance of these riots - and just exactly why they formed such a central psychodrama - to the series. I'm exactly like Katarina - who looked totally nonplussed at let's say some stage of the proceedings - without giving a spoiler!. If someone could give me a synopsis to why the four (?) Cops got each.other into such a pickle over these riots I would be grateful. Otherwise Huss wasn't bad as an insight into how Swedish rookie cops settle into their new jobs - even if one has a mother who is a top police officer. Wonder if the series had a police adviser? The demise of most TV series like films is a poor script and that's the big problem here. This appears to be a spin off or sequel to a 2008 series "Irene Huss", I never saw it. As a previous reviewer said, this series wants us to believe that a trainee cop is given all these special assignments, because the trainee is so intelligent and her mom is a high ranking police officer The lead character Katarina Huss makes plenty of dumb mistakes as would be expected from any trainee. If she had been a highly intelligent university student in criminology or a close subject, it would be more believable but this series jumps the shark. That she's the hero of the episodes is stupid.

I tend to enjoy European police procedurals, but other than some beautiful locations and a few good actors, watch "Beck" or "Wallander" (Swedish or British versions) if you want to see good Swedish police dramas.

The idea is good. Modern policing from a trainees viewpoint ... pretty frightening.

What lets it down is Huss finding herself as part of a investigation team only days after having joined the uniformed force as a trainee.

It is the same in episode 2, although worse. Huss seems Hell bent on losing her job. Again she is drafted into the homicide team. Sleeps with the boss, joins a police vigilante team and constantly goes her own way and disobeys orders.

It continues in this vain and get worse throughout the series.

It is disappointing because the idea and crime stories deserved more.

The character of Huss is just not credible as is her involvement in the cases in the first few weeks of of her "training". The ending is just a joke.

I love this show, interesting characters, realistic crimes and reactions.

Its not exactly Scandi noir because it's city based - but it has the strong female characters of Scandi noir along with a pacey police procedural. I've no idea why it's not more highly rated, it's Definitely worth your time.

The acting is strong, there's a true underlying essence of how and why the police stick together in the worst of situations because no one should really need to make the decisions they do under extreme pressure of day to day policing issues, really it's no wonder Post traumatic stress disorder is so prevalent in the forces, realistically there's major issues with how it's set up.
