Charlotte Siegel: Eight years ago I was hauling my mom's car to the two gigs I could book: college shows and rotary clubs. I didn't even realize rotary clubs existed, and they didn't know I did. I'm playing but... I'm in this rut of living in my parents' basement trying to be a success. It can't happen. And I realize that. I realize I don't need those rich idiots getting up in my business. Charlotte Siegel: No. Ha. No. That's fine. That's fine, babe. I hop on Craig's List and I find this dude, genuine creep, who's selling a vintage. When I get there he won't shut up. He just keeps telling me this story about how he for 20 years he would make the same sandwich with a can of tuna fish, but- It was cat food. You remember this bit? It's my first- So he's got this look in his eyes when he sells me the car, like he's amazed he's finally getting rid of this thing. But whatever. I'm amazed at the price. So I'm hauling this shit to Syracuse the next weekend and I'm... hit with this sudden epiphany of humor. I pull over and whip out my notepad and I just start writing it all down. All of it. I get to the gig and I throw out all the crap material I'd been doing and I pull this shit out of my ass and guess what? I mean, I had never killed before. This car, Alex, this car is magic. I lived in this thing for two years. Traveling up and down the coast. Finding people's stories. And I fucking made it. You understand what I'm saying? If you quit, you're gonna quit because of him.
