Why, in the name of sanity, do producers insist on having music that drowns out the voice over commentary on shows like this one? Don't producers listen to their productions before irritating their audience because they can't hear the voice over commentary? It's really annoying and unprofessional. Maybe those studying film and TV production should have to attend a few classes on how to balance background music and voice over commententary. Otherwise they're simply wasting money on paying the narrator. It also happens often in movies. It's truely pathetic. The music should be unobtrusive and in the background!

Watching Ruth episodes on together tv channel in 2021 and using google to see where are they now,amazing how much genuine change has been made ,the show is not only entertaining but actually achieved its brief and rescued many houses and not only for show.

I love this programme, or rather the Ruth Watson fronted episodes.

I never saw the Simon hosted ones the first time round, but have caught a couple of repeats recently, and they're awful, he just didn't have the personality to carry it at all.

Where Ruth could be cutting but humorous at the same time, Simon just floundered, no wonder it only lasted one series with him at the helm.

This show tracks an older couple as they attempt to save a remarkable, centuries-old manor home. The home is rambling, with many areas in a bad state, and the grounds are breath-taking.

The couple attempting to rescue it are classic, daft Brits. You have to thank them, but you also conclude they're nuts. I assume the UK lets these homes go to seed, because they have too many to save? Making it all worse, is the behavior of the couple as they interact with their non-crazy children is also "only in the old world." You can't fathom The couple's emotionally anachronistic values are truly strange. The husband when asked if a meager amount being discussed was his income last year; admits. "I've never made a profit." Even capitalism is a foreign idea.

Houses with long and rich histories, their owners in the not the best situation, solutions for solve, in essence, the same problem. A series seductive for the pieces of stories, for illusions and high need of help, for details and for the second life of walls and bricks and roofs . It is difficult to define it because it is a mix of emotions and good hope. The houses are significant parts of the lives of their owners and their future becomes, story by story, episode by episode, important for the large spectre of nuances. So, a good occasion for viewer to see , admiring venerable buildings, his house from nuanced perspective.
