Smurfs

I really like all of the other Smurf movies, but this one was different. It was boring and a bit too weird. The characters seemed weirdly drawn. It only had Rhianna going for it and that was a bit over the top. Would recommend waiting to stream it rather than seeing it at the cinema. I took my 7 year old daughter and I feel like she was probably too old for it. May suit 5 years old and under. It felt like they were trying to make it really exciting which just didn't work out. I also had a thought of "have they even seen any of the other Smurf movies?" Again, I think it'll be fine to stream and with younger kids, but wouldn't pay to see it at the cinema.

This movie was very disappointing. I dont feel the voices fit the roles. I was used to Smurfettes voice being cute and dainty. The voice instead was rough and didnt fit her character. The plot didnt make sense. It seemed like things were juat thrown togethet and not thought out. They bleeped swear words all out at the end of movie in which my kids asked what that was. I dont want to have to explain an adult thing in a kids movie. I was very upset with this version. I think movies need to stick close to the original versions and characters. If not, it messes the movie up and highly disappoints.

The original smurfs cartoon from the 1980's had heart, soul, magic and a whole lot of substance, this one is just useless and it continues the downward spiral started in season 9 and continues onward ever since, now rihanna is a good singer, but she is wrong for voicing smurfette, she adds absolutely nothing new to the character, although there some good scenes, the rest are completely atrocious and doesn't have any of the charm nor heart of the original peyo clifford comic strip nor hanna barbera cartoons, the screenplay is completely woeful, it completely missed the opportunity of the charm, the writing is just pitiful, i will stick with the 1980's saturday morning cartoon version from nbc instead, this thing is just pathetic.

Thumbs way down.

The Smurfs' new movie adventure lacks the charm of the little blue ones who have captivated generations.

Director Chris Miller mixes an overly childish adventure with music that doesn't quite meet the expectations one might always have for these characters. While the film is designed for young children, it doesn't quite work for them either. It's a flat journey, with no real appeal other than its splendid animation.

Its songs work, but they feel like they don't quite fit into the plot. It attempts to resemble Trolls, but it doesn't achieve the same impact. Still, the film is decent enough, just enough fun to watch and have a decent time with, but nothing else is memorable once the end credits roll.

It must also be said that the film's effective aspects are due to its reuse of what was effective, which lacks originality and is somewhat tiresome. It's a predictable journey whose ending we know from the beginning.

In short, this is a film that works thanks to the colors of its animation, but it falls far short of proposing refreshing and encouraging ideas for the future. It ends up being just another film about these characters.

I went into The Smurfs knowing the reviews weren't great, but it was the only movie playing at a time that worked for me. So... expectations were low, and yet I still walked out underwhelmed.

The plot is confusing: the script never really makes it clear what the characters are trying to do next. It kind of meanders from scene to scene without much direction. There are 2 or 3 jokes that actually land, but the rest either fall flat or are just painfully repetitive (looking at you, Sound Effects Smurf).

The movie tries to be self-aware and "not take itself too seriously," but it doesn't quite work. It wants to be cool and clever, but it comes off more like it's trying too hard.

I saw a review warning about a scene that might scare kids (when Razamel threatens to kill the smurfs). Honestly, my 4-year-old daughter (and every other kid in the theater) was totally fine. I think that comment came from an overly sensitive parent with an even more sensitive kid.

Bottom line: The Smurfs isn't the worst movie ever made, but it's definitely not a good one. Passable if you're desperate, forgettable otherwise.
