I had the opportunity to watch the movie on Paramount. This movie originally premiered on November, 2023, and has a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. It is rated for viewers aged 18 and older. As someone on the autism spectrum, I found subtitles to be incredibly helpful, greatly enhancing my ability to follow the dialogue throughout the film. Garry Walsh directed and wrote the film, with Bryan Walsh contributing to the screenplay.
Summary: Following a brazen robbery, a band of desperate criminals seeks sanctuary in an isolated holiday home, their hopes pinned on a period of quiet planning before their escape. Yet, their audacious scheme rapidly deteriorates, transforming into a cascade of escalating disasters.
Review: -The film's opening scene stood out for its innovative storytelling and humour, effectively establishing the narrative tone and drawing the audience into the world of the film. The film's narrative effectively captures the capricious nature of life, the perils of complacency, and the corrosive effects of stress on interpersonal bonds, thereby presenting a nuanced portrayal of human experience. The movie's pacing was generally well-handled, yet certain plot points were executed in a way that occasionally disrupted the narrative flow, leading to moments where the pacing felt uneven and, at times, even dull. The film incorporated comedic elements, especially in the interplay between characters, which I recognized and appreciated. However, the humour didn't consistently land; I experienced only occasional smiles. At times, the attempts at humour felt forced, leading to a sense of mild annoyance, as if the film was striving too hard for laughs. The acting was generally good, but some scenes could have been more convincingly acted, particularly those involving injuries, as the actors sometimes failed to convey the expected level of discomfort. The film's reliance on verbose dialogue, particularly the character's tendency to vocalize their thoughts, detracted from the overall horror experience. This narrative choice, while potentially intended to convey the character's altered state due to substance use, ultimately reduced the tension and fear factor.
-The makeup used in the movie was effective in creating a creepy appearance for the character. The gore, had varying degrees of realism; at times it appeared convincingly realistic, while in other instances it looked unconvincing, with a pinkish hue instead of a deeper red, and sometimes appeared watery and reflective when caught in the light, resembling water with food dye. The gentle lighting established a nuanced atmosphere that I found appealing; however, while all the essential elements in each frame were distinctly visible, some parts could have benefited from additional brightness. Personally, I often adjust my screen's brightness for a better viewing experience, which proved particularly helpful during this film. The film masterfully exploits the isolated setting of a small, maze-like country cottage to amplify the characters' feelings of claustrophobia and tension, crafting an atmosphere of growing unease that permeates the narrative.
-While some plot twists were somewhat foreseeable, the movie delivered a satisfying conclusion that effectively wrapped up the story, further enhanced by an additional scene during the ending credits.
I rate each film I watch out of 10 and for this one, I give it a 4.8 Remember this was what I thought about the movie personally and I suggest that you give it a go for yourself.
