Ufologists

There's something uniquely brilliant and charming about British comedy that I love and find a lot of comfort in. Throw in the beauty and character of Cornwall and a subject matter which has earnest believers and eccentric theories and you're left with some good-natured humor.

Whether it's the outlandish conspiracy theories or the devotion of its followers, ufology lends itself to light-hearted mockery and in this mockumentary style film that's exactly what you get.

The film follows four mates (the only members of the group) who have a passion for ufology, so much so that our man Percival Pembroke has founded the Cornwall branch of Ufologists. From his background in the RAF he knows what it takes to lead a merry band of enthusiasts knowing that the truth is out there (somewhere).

Next up is Ruan Borlewen, though he prefers the moniker "Starman" (even if it hasn't quite caught on). A fiery ginger with a bold personality, he's convinced that if he were ever 'taken up' by extraterrestrials, his bright orange complexion would ensure they quickly return him to Earth.

Member #3 is Gorran Tremethick (not gorn, as he'll tell you) and so far their uniquely Cornish names add to the charm of the film. One of the more odd members of the group both in appearance and intellect had me in stitches with his unique takes on aliens, UFOs and life in general. I'd take advice from this man any day of the week.

Lastly (and I won't even talk about Barry mind you!) is the intellectual of the group, David Freeman who I'm certain almost breaks character trying not to laugh at just about anything Starman comes out with and it's hilarious to watch. He sets himself above (not on par) with the likes of Stephen Hawking and this is easily demonstrated by his invention, the Neurological Satellite Receiver which to us mere laymen is a bike helmet with some wires taped on but only David knows how it truly works.

The others in the cast outwith our protagonists do a stellar job. Ellie Thornton is the interviewer, played by Mel Hayward in this mockumentary and how she manages to keep a straight face the whole time I've no idea but hats off to her.

I intended this to be a fairly short review but then didn't think it would quite do it justice. In fact this is probably the first review I've written about anything but I feel the film deserves more attention. I absolutely recommend watching if you can and hope to see more from Jason and cast.

Writing and executing a film that is both heartwarming and funny is no easy feat, but Ufologists manages it with a blend of subtlety and absurdity.

It's less a film about aliens and more a story about people and wonderfully bonkers British eccentricity. It stands as a true antithesis to the seriousness and drudgery of modern life, offering a much-needed dose of escapism-now more than ever.

While it doesn't quite reach the heights of Roma, it is every bit as emotive and rewarding as any of Ricky Gervais's acclaimed works.

We could all use a little less Starmer-and a bit more Starman-in our lives.

Watched on Amazon Prime Video after being suggested to give it a watch.

Is it a Hollywood block buster? No! But what it is, is a low budget, light hearted poke at the world of UFO enthusiasts. In the style of This Country (which I am a fan of) and similar traits to Mackenzie Crooks 'The Detectorists', UFOLOGISTS shines with its array of quirky Cornish characters and interesting and often silly view points of local Cornish legends and landmarks, relating all to aliens and UFO activity.

This is a mockumentary and not to be confused as a serious film about UFOS! Although by reading some of the reviews on Amazon they may have been lead down the wrong path ha ha.

I highly recommend a watch as it gave me the biggest smile, and to add its worth watching just for the ending!! I was left with the warmest and feel good emotions. It was also fantastic to find additional material of the UFOLOGISTS on YouTube.

Well done all involved as I enjoyed it so much, I hope to see a sequel.

Uncertain of what we were in for, we decided to watch UFOLOGISTS and settled in for our Friday Night Movie. Almost immediately, we found ourselves laughing and fully engaged with the characters. The film brought to mind beloved comedies like The Office and Fawlty Towers, delivering humor in a way that felt nostalgic and reminiscent of my younger days.

As the credits rolled, we found ourselves craving more. This film truly elevated our family's Friday Night Movie experience, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.

If you're on the hunt for a family-friendly film, look no further than UFOLOGISTS. It will transport you back to the classic comedies of yesteryear!

Loved this. The characters are well funny. Jason Gregg is a great actor and writer.

His ability to write comedy is bang on. Similar to The office (uk version), he has written in some hilarious sketches and cringeworthy moments that leaves you in stitches.

He has chosen a great range of actors that all bring their own qualities to the film.

I really believe this will be made into a series as there is so much scope for where this could go.

Jason Gregg be one to watch in the future as I think we"ll see a lot more from him and his directing on TV and film.

Also - It was great to see some loverly Cornish landmarks in the film.
