Everyone should watch this movie!!!!!
DID is misrepresented in tv and movies so often, most often by people who have no experience with it. This short flim is well made, moving and shows an accurate representation of a disorder 2% of the world live with (the same percent as people with red hair! It's not that rare). Everyone should watch this movie, maybe TV and movies will catch up someday. Stories about mental health conditions should always be played and made by people who have them! Movies like this one are starting points to conversations about DID and mental health. 10/10 stars, must watch!

Since 2017-18 and perhaps even before that in our own therapy we discovered and knew about dissociation. Upon transitioning from therapy to coaching and becoming a coach ourselves was where we really dove deep into the understanding of its impact on us and that there were multiple in one body. Even with all that knowledge and understanding something was missing to put it all together. Maybe because what we needed to be doing was breaking it apart and not forcing it to be a together one piece puzzle LOL. Upon watching this film we made sense of ourselves. We went into it knowing we live with dissociation as part of our CPTSD and came out saying thats US!
Thank you so much for this clever and beautifully executed short film. Amongst the various Mental Health diagnoses one can receive DID, is up there with some of the highest challenges. The stigma, misunderstanding etc are horrible. It presents so differently in each person, this contributes to this. Factor in cultural, ethnic, language and refugee issues in amongst others and it's a perfect storm.
I have found that the need to "hide " your diagnosis, particularly amongst other mental health providers, deeply disturbing. I wish they would watch this film. Have shared it everywhere on my Blog. X.

At last, a brief, beautiful , inspirational and educational understanding of Dissociative Identity Disorder that properly thanks its brave "petals" and offers hope and a way ahead . To add to its beauty it was made by a mother and son -where the mother has DID . A rare film that can be recommended to all-the general public as well as professionals . Thanks to the survivors and colleagues who alerted me to it. A beautiful young woman is excited and nervous about her date with a safe man she loves. We watch her shop, cook, dress. This could be the start of any romantic Hollywood film . However, the gift of the film is that we see the "petals" of the other personalities open and close as and when they are needed and merge effortlessly in out of the body with the fluency of a cartoon transformation . We understand their purpose and their courage and our heroine thanks them all but ensures them she and they are safe for the date . Having a Hollywood -style romantic narrative acts as an antidote to all the horror stories of DID and the loving way the heroine aids the growth of all in the system by thanking them and understanding them offers stunning role models. It is the brilliance of this film that it does not shirk from sexuality and adult love but does so in an empowering way.

I am so grateful Holly came to the DID retreat today and shared Petals of a Rose. It wad an excellent portrayal of DID. It covered a simple but accurate view of DID where we are not portrayed as killers or violent people. In reality people with DID are just regular people struggling to make it through life in the best way we can just like everyone else does. Petals of a Rose showed a woman with DID trying to help her alters get through an afternoon and evening that ends up being triggering. The trigger is handled in a sensitive manner. I enjoyed the film and all appreciate all the work and vulnerability that went into it. Thank you Holly for opening up and sharing your story with us. You are so courageous to share this movie with the world. What an incredibly helpful and awesome difference you are making for people with DID.
