Edward uses an Olivetti Valentine typewriter, designed by Ettore Sottsass and introduced in 1969. The Valentine is part of the permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian Design Museum.
Writer-director Aaron Schimberg was born with a cleft palate and has spoken openly about how his experience with facial difference and multiple reconstructive surgeries influenced the film's themes.
