The photo of Edward and his mother in Edward's apartment is a real picture of Sebastian Stan and his mother.

The film was shot in just 22 days during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

Edward uses an Olivetti Valentine typewriter, designed by Ettore Sottsass and introduced in 1969. The Valentine is part of the permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian Design Museum.

Writer-director Aaron Schimberg was born with a cleft palate and has spoken openly about how his experience with facial difference and multiple reconstructive surgeries influenced the film's themes. In a 2024 interview with Le Cinéma Club, he explained that his personal journey informed the story and his interest in representing facial disfigurement on screen authentically.

Sebastian Stan premiered two films in 2024: A Different Man and The Apprentice. He won Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival for A Different Man, received a Golden Globe nomination for The Apprentice, and won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for A Different Man. At the Academy Awards, he was nominated for his role as Donald Trump in The Apprentice. Adrien Brody won Best Actor that year for The Brutalist.
