फ़ीचर्ड समीक्षाएं
A whole lot of dialogue and very little else...
The movie started out nicely enough, but as soon as the narrative settles into the diner, the movie falls into a boring slump and became a who-done-it? Sort of mystery with an insane amount of dialogue and very little else going on. And I have to say that it effectively brought the movie to a stand still for me, and thus I didn't really particularly enjoy the movie all that much.
It was the first 10 minutes and the last 20 minutes of the movie that proved entertaining, the rest was essentially just dialogue filler.
I was only familiar with Jeremy London and Ritchie Montgomery on the cast list. And truth be told, Jeremy London's performance in "Bone Face" was outstanding. It was, without a doubt, his best performance that I have seen, just a shame that the script was held back by the way writer and director Michael Donovan Horn opted to tell the story.
Visually, then the movie was okay. There were a few special effects in the movie, which were actually fair. But of course, for a movie running at 104 minutes with the majority of that time being spent in dialogue inside a diner, then you don't really need special effects all that much.
"Bone Face" was watchable, for sure, but it was a disappointing movie for me. And it is not a movie that I will be returning to watch a second time.
My rating of writer and director Michael Donovan Horn's 2025 movie "Bone Face" lands on a four out of ten stars.
Fun, campy horror
Bone Face starts traditionally enough. Camp counselors alone at a last night party -- and then you can guess what happens. Small town cops show up determined to track and nab the killer. But after the incident is where this movie veers off into classic and delightful territory. All the actors nail their roles and the dialogue is delicious. Independent, low-budget movie making at its best.
Real WhoDunnit
If you're expecting a killing frenzy film, this is not it.
I'm not particularly familiar with the low-budget movie scene - I just stumbled across it while scrolling IMDb's recent releases, ignoring the review ratings. But I have to say: what an introduction! I assumed I'd figure out the killer early on, but the script is crafted well enough to keep you genuinely guessing.
Truth be told, I was a bit concerned at first. The acting felt shaky in the beginning, with some of the campers clearly more expressive than others. But once the diner scene hit, I was sold. Every single actor in that sequence delivered - and considering this is a low-budget film, I was expecting some uneven performances. Instead, it was surprisingly solid across the board.
And let's not forget the camerawork - especially in the diner. It genuinely felt like you were right there with them, adding a layer of immersion that elevated the tension and atmosphere.
Even the ending delivers a final twist. Sure, it might feel a little unsatisfying in how it wraps up depending on how you feel, but it still lands that last jab - leaving you questioning everything and rethinking what you thought you knew.
A Mixed Bag
If the actual script were better, this would be a really great experimental movie that plays around with the genre. Unfortunately, the script has some major holes in it, such that the final reveal seems slapped together. If the final 15 minutes or so didn't undo all the work done earlier in the movie, this would have been amazing.
In the end, though, it's a nice-looking movie that's worth the time-investment.
