I played with Hot Wheels back in the 60's as a kid, I still remember the excitement of getting a new car or setting up the track. Fast forward 50+ years and now there is a TV show, and a lousy one at that. From the get go, you can tell that the emotions, the reactions and just about everything else is "staged". Everything is "played up" and over exaggerated. I'm guessing it's for the sake of ratings, but it is almost comical watching and listening to the responses and reactions. This is not a reality show, even the short commercials and previews shown are way over the top. But at the end of the day, would I buy ANY of these so called "Hot Wheels"? HELL NO!!! I'd actually be surprised if NBC let them finish out the season.
Underwhelming and kind of sick how they destroyed a classic Dodge Charger on the first show like the Dukes of Hazzard wrecking crew, in fact they seem to absolutely ruin every car on the show. It's like they combined Kindergarten, cars and Top Chef. Terrible. Are any of these cars even driveable on a public road after the butchery? Like most of us car guys I wasn't sure what to expect and thought I had set the bar pretty low but I didn't know it had to be lower than the Marianis Trench. Too bad the Sag Writers strike didn't happen until this week, would have given the network time to come to its senses. NBC needs to put this dog out of its misery.
My God what a waste of time and money. If you like shiny objects and pretty colors, this is the show for you.
The idiots who greenlighted this visual and auditory assault on the senses should just stick to their coloring books and stop making TV.
Why not make a Matchbox Cars show. It would be just as dull and boring but it would cost less, just like the Matchbox Cars do.
How about a show about finger painting. You could get some "talent" from the internet that no one knows who they are. A bunch of idiots who are "influencers" and they can host and judge.
Other than that.... It's just a steamer from Cleveland.

I was really looking forward to this, and the previews gave such high expectations. I've watched the first two episodes hoping for some great, amazing cars, but am still waiting. I really wish they could've, would've gotten some true expert car fabricators and could spend a couple weeks in a true fabrication shop, rather than bolting on pre-made pieces and basically unfinished cars. And my biggest gripe is that they never attempt to start the cars and try to drive them. I can guarantee that none of these vehicles could drive a city block without falling into a pile of parts. One vehicle was meant to do a wheelie, but instead of taking out and actually doing one, they jack it up with a hydraulic wheelie machine. I'm still planning to watch if possible to see what poor constructions they put together.
I had high hopes for the show and maybe it will come around. The first episode was a bit weak, especially when the one contestant really didn't seem to have much say in what her car looked like since the body kit was already there.
And one of the 'experts' commented that an issue with the wheelie car could be that it could twist under all the torque. The problem is rear wheel drive cars can twist the body/frame under massive torque because the engine is in the front and the wheels in the back so the driveshaft is twisting against the body/frame. His build had the engine right next to the differential, not much distance to twist.
