After a series of disturbing signs, a military team is requested to look into the possibility that a top-secret weapon has gotten loose in a mountain region nearby, but when they learn they're tracking a genetically-engineered shark capable of living in mountain areas must get away alive.
On the whole, this was a fairly fun and generally enjoyable genre effort. Among the better features of this one is the rather fun and intriguing setup that provides the kind of cheesy setup necessary for this style of feature. Taking a rather formulaic but no less intriguing means here with the team of soldiers tasked with going to a remote part of the country to check on reports of something strange in the area and learning that it matches a military experiment where they're sent out into the countryside to find a shark capable of living in the dirt instead of the sea loose in the mountains all manages to provide a fun start to this. The brief bits given about the kind of experimentation required to pull this off and feel logical are quite well handled here, as it's just enough to provide a believable enough explanation for the creature's existence while also generating the means through which to get the team out there to hunt it down and kill it. That gives the film a nice way of getting to the shark action in the latter half. With a fun opening attack that sets the stage for things to come, the first instances of the creature stalking the team through the rocky terrain as the fin cracks the dirt ground instead of water offer a fine taste of what's to come. Encounters along a hiking trail attempting to get back to base or the series of encounters using the group as targets by the deranged doctor looking to use them as a means of testing what the creature is capable of which means there are some enjoyable cheesy encounters along the mountainous terrain of the outclassed team going up against the shark in singular setpieces. Filled with cheesy activity pulled off in immensely noticeable and laughable CGI that is commonplace in these features, it does come off rather well at points. There are some issues with this one that bring it down. The main problematic feature here is the slack tempo, which leaves the film quite dull for a long part of the running time. As we get nearly endless scenes of the group going through the ordeal of figuring out where the creature is residing, why they're chosen for the mission, and then wandering aimlessly through the mountain trails tracking it by complaining endlessly in a way that no real military-trained figure should act like, the beginning half is a real slough to get through. As it never gives off the kind of cheesy qualities expected in this setup, as instead it's dull, unbelievable characters moping around the countryside instead of action, it just highlights this issue far more than it really should, and makes for a somewhat tough time getting into everything. With an appallingly lame villain who easily could've been overpowered and never had as much control as he does, and a motive just as underwhelming, there are some factors holding this one down.
Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence and Graphic Language.

It was so bad i actually finished it
Love the shark very realistic, the acting blew me out of the water like the shark was the whole movie. Larry was my favorite because he was a strong male lead in a world where we are seeing less and less STRONG men in film. Really refreshing to see a character on screen I can relate to.
I felt like i was transported right into the British Lake District with the shaky running shots and mis-scaled shark. I loved the shark id go to the lake district JUST for the shark. I think if i had a patronous like they do in the horrible Harry Potter films it would definitely be this shark.
The surprise lesbin relationship ruined it for me.

The punch line ... just avoid this movie, as most low budget shark movies are better,
It looks like anyone with a camera and basic computer graphics skills thinks they can make a movie. This cast MAY even have a modicum of skill (and is the only reason I didn't give one star), but this movie won't show it. Is it so hard to TRY to think of the details?
The script ... oh please. I am not saying the writer needs to join the army, but at least they could have done a little research with a decent war movie or two. Small example, in the military rank is EVERYTHING, so much of the side banter is worse then useless. This movie was COMPLETELY unbelievable.
The acting was acceptable for a low budget film, but again the details killed the experience. As just examples, military types don't wear SNEAKERS on a mission. They also know how to hold a weapon.
But don't hope the directing can save the day as they made the worst of using a minimum of different shot locations ... a house, the hills, and not much else.

Having just sat through the God awful 2024 movie "Mummy Shark", I would venture on into ridiculous shark territory, and this time it would be "Mountain Shark" from director Greg AK. Yeah, needless to say that I had neither heard about this movie prior to watching it, nor did I harbor any expectations to the movie. So in a sense, director Greg AK had every opportunity to impress and entertain me.
Right, just over 4 minutes into the movie and it becomes apparent what kind of movie this was, as the CGI animated shark that emerged from the mountainous soil was hilariously bad to look at.
Writer Ben Daly put together a rather generic script, even for a strange shark movie such as this was. Sure, it was watchable, but it sort of makes for a background movie, something you put on and listen to with half an ear while you are doing something else.
Needless to say that I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. The acting in the movie was adequate for the most parts. Though I have to say I am beyond comprehension of how actor Stephen Staley made it through casting screen, as his performance was insanely wooden and devoid of conviction.
Visually then you're not in for anything grand. But at least it was better than the shark movies you get from Mark Polonia.
The best part about "Mountain Shark" was the tag on the front of the cover, which reads "The hills are alive with the sound of screaming". A nice twist on the phrase from "Sound of Music". And while we are on the topic of the movie's cover, let's just be clear that the cover over-sells the movie by a landslide, no doubt about that, because the shark in the movie looks nowhere as great as it does on the cover.
My rating of director Greg AK 2024 movie "Mountain Shark" lands on a most generous three out of ten stars.

Creeping about the dull hills somewhere in Blighty is an out of control CGI shark.
The basics, there's a house in the hills, where they were doing some secret weapon research. Some so called experts are sent there to sort something out that may end up being their deaths. Turns out its a shark that's out of control in the Hills.
Honestly if i didn't see that's its a comedy horror, I would have turned off with the 1st scene.
The cast of characters are actually decent. The location works well. The set is well done. Some good scenes with the Doctor are actually brilliant and well acted. The camp scene and comedy character worked really well and made it worh watching.
The story was a bit nuts, as in, it was a bit unbelievable but I have seen worse.
Not sure who directed this film, bit some shots look great while others look terrible. Some of the drone shots don't look edited right as it seems to wiggle of, then on to the next shot.
All the deaths look the same, surely could have changed it up a bit.
The shark at times looks like it could be from a 90s computer game.
So many shark films out there now and on to watch Sand Sharks.
