I've seen lots of horror short films, and I have to say Open Casket is one of the better ones-especially considering its running time is only four minutes. The film features a man who discovers that a newly acquired painting on his wall opens a door to hell. It's very well made and carries a sense of authenticity and the charm of age. While the film itself isn't old, something in the setting and atmosphere gives it that feeling in a positive way. The cinematography and acting are solid, effectively highlighting the absurdity and horror of the situation the man finds himself in. The special effects, as well as the design and execution of the creature character, are decent for such a short film. There's no dialogue, which draws even more attention to the disturbing sound effects.
