Sunset Superman

This movie was put on Tubi because it probably didn't have a top budget. However, unlike most Tubi movies, the main character acted in true gangster style. The other characters were all over the place. I didn't hate the movie and was so I gave it a 9/10. I would have likely goven it a solid 10 if a little more was put into the storyline.

One thing about Tubi is if you get established actors you might get a wonderful movie. Again, this one was very good! To be honest, I could see a part two to this movie. It would love to see more back story. There was some real moments of acting & I appreciate that.

Stumbling upon the 2024 action comedy "Sunset Superman", seeing that it was starring Michael Jai White, and it being a movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I had to check out what writer and director Jason Krawczyk had to offer.

The storyline in the movie was actually rather enjoyable, as it was a nice combination of action and comedy. Writer Jason Krawczyk put together a good script, and I have to say that I was genuinely entertained throughout the course of the 81 minutes that the movie ran for.

The acting performances in "Sunset Superman" were good. And Michael Jai White was nicely cast for the leading role and he carried the movie quite well. The only familiar faces on the screen were Michael Jai White and Billy Zane.

There is a good amount of action in the movie, and even some hilarious blood and gore. Yeah, that was quite a nice surprise, but a very welcomed one.

If you enjoy action comedies, then you should watch "Sunset Superman".

My rating of writer and director Jason Krawczyk's 2024 movie lands on a well-deserved six out of ten stars.

I didn't have any high expectations from "Don't Mess With Grandma," but I have to admit that in the end, I was entertained...and that's pretty much all I ask of a movie.

Michael Jai White plays a former Special Forces soldier who is visiting his grandma. She is hard of hearing as well as hard of seeing, which allows the unlikely plot of him being able to spend all night hiding the fact that droves of robbers are trying to steal her blind...so to speak. Said robbers are led by a barely recognizable Billy Zane, hidden behind a really absurd mustache.

The situations truly are ridiculous, but the cast doesn't take it seriously and is able to walk that "fine line between stupid and clever." White does a nice job with the humor, although the soliloquies are a little long. But if you can suspend disbelief long enough and just take the movie on its own attempt at mindless entertainment, you can probably enjoy it. It is what it is. Nothing special, but good for a few chuckles.

If this was going for a 80's feel of action comedy, I don't think it pulled it off. For lack of a good story, the bulk of it is everybody taking turns watching Michael Jai White beat one of them up, or a group of them. The characterisations are probably meant for humor but off-putting to the say the least. There is no believable sincerity in the atmosphere or the motives of all involved, and the characters of Stan and Pam are awkwardly weird. Gran's self-awareness isn't infuriating for what this movie is, but it certainly is cringe by any standard. It's definitely one of those films that make you ask Why, and I can't imagine anyone finding it humorous.

I watched "Don't Mess With Grandma" because I have enjoyed some of Michael Jai White's other films, in particular, the cult favorite "Black Dynamite". And, while White once again beats the snot out of some jerks, this time he's older, less confident and not quite the invincible superhero.

Jasper (White) goes to his grandma's house and it soon is clear her hearing isn't very good and she's a tad oblivious. During this time at her house, some burglars arrive and try to break in...and Jasper pummels them. So, they bring more friends, and Jasper pummels them...and his grandma's pitbull kills one of them. So, they bring in more friends. Why? And, what's next? See the film.

This is not a great film but made me laugh quite a few times. I also appreciate how White is now well into his 50s...and while tough, he's NOT the man of steel. A clever comedy...though also one with an obviously low budget and modest pretensions. Worth seeing it you like White's work...otherwise, you might be able to skip this one.
