Tubi will never cease to surprise me with the vast array of movies they have to offer. This indie horror peaked my curiosity upon seeing the poster...The pacing felt a bit too stretched out, leaving you itching for something more exciting to happen after the lengthy build-up, but once the game made its long awaited appearance things got more interesting. Also WHO has that many candles in a single apartment? WOW.
Unlike your typical horror flicks that start off with a bang, this one takes its time to ease you in, leaving you bouncing in your seat, thinking, "Come on, something spooky has to happen soon." and then it sorta does, and while the scares are scarce, the horror atmosphere is top notch!
By the end of "Stupid Games" redeems itself and it's definitely a fun watch-if you've got the patience of a saint and the thirst for horror, that is.

"Stupid Games" is the kind of horror film that doesn't quite live up to its promise, but still manages to entertain in an oddly guilty-pleasure kind of way. Directed by Nicolas Wendl and Dani Abraham, this 2024 release aims to blend psychological horror with 90s supernatural boardgame horror.
There are some genuinely clever moments where the tension builds, and you feel that sense of dread that any good horror film should evoke. The atmosphere is well-crafted, with a great soundtrack and some striking visuals that do a lot to set the mood.
While the film doesn't reinvent the wheel by any means, Stupid Games still offers enough thrills and even laughs to keep viewers entertained, especially if they're fans of indie horror films where you can feel the filmmakers heartbeat in it.

I know I know my rating is what it is, but somehow this movie really hit all the right notes for me. Something about the low budget, our your heart our into this passion project film really struck a chord with me. I read up a lot about it after seeing it on Mometu for the first time when it was released and I ran to letterboxd to give it some love and now here I am giving it some love here too. Is it perfect, no, does it still deserve 10 yessss! This little indie B horror movie is so fun and creepy and the atmosphere is TOP NOTCH! The characters are so fun and have their own quirks, and that 90s nostalgia hits hard! I really enjoyed Stupid Games! Let's win some stupid prizes!
This is a sleek and tense indie horror that leans heavily on atmosphere, minimalism, and the creeping sense of dread that bubbles up from a night of innocent fun turning into something far more sinister. Directed by Nicolas Wendl and Dani Abraham, and written by Tanner Adams, the film follows Celeste, who hosts a dinner party for her one-night stand, Jaxon, and his friends. What starts as a typical game night soon spirals into a nightmarish ordeal after they start playing a seemingly innocuous board game that has dangerous consequences.
The standout strength of the film is how it plays with expectations. You could easily predict where a lot of the scenes are headed, but there's a subtle craftsmanship in the pacing and visual storytelling choices that keep you hooked. The board game itself becomes more of a metaphorical catalyst than a true plot device.
The pacing might be a turn-off for some, especially those looking for the more overtly shocking moments typical of the genre. It relies heavily on a slow burn that doesn't always land with the intensity you might hope for.
Still, for what it is-a small-scale horror film that thrives on psychological tension and limited resources-Stupid Games delivers. It's not flawless, but it's a quietly unsettling piece of genre cinema that's definitely worth a look.

Very mediocre horror film with bad acting. I couldn't even get through a third of the film. I was really dissappointed as I am a big horror film fan. The game prop was cool in the film but the writing and acting were lacking. The movie drags on and can be slow at times, and it very hard to get through. I didn't have high expectations for a budget film but this one is unwatchable.
The board game concept reminded me a lot off ouija boards. The characters in the film play a boardgame at a dinner party and it summons a evil force. And the evil entity forces the characters to play the board game for their survival. The vibe of the film reminded me a bit of 90s horror films.
