I'm Surprised!

Now, I'll admit. The trailers, were not 100% doing it for me. I found it weird that they were doing a sequel about the bad guys, who are no longer bad? And the way the trailer showed us the bad girls, seems extremely forced in there. But I'm pleased to say, that the trailers kind of miss marketed the movie. First off, it's more bad guys. If you like, what the first movie did. If you like these characters. The sequel delivers exactly what that first movie delivered on. The heist, the great character moments, the spy elements. Everything that makes that first movie as good as it is, is all in the sequel. And like I mentioned before, I was worried about the bad guys now being good, I thought making a sequel with them good, would make it feel like a forced sequel. But that is not the case at all, the movie goes down a certain direction that makes the plot work. But I'm glad that we got a sequel now making them good people, because this movie would not have been the same thing without that plot line in there. That I am now excited and want more sequels based on these characters. I want to see a whole franchise built with them! This needs to be DreamWorks next big franchise they have because they can now do so many storylines with them. And since there's books on them, I expect that we will be getting that. Now, let's talk about the bad girls. The main part of this movie. And I gotta say, I love what they did with them. Throughout the entire movie I was just thinking about how great of villains they are, I haven't broke this fully down so I don't know 100% on how I would feel about it, but there's a chance that these villains are a top 10 DreamWorks villain. Take everything great about the bad guys but this time as a villain switching that perspective up. That's why they're such great villains. And I gotta say, I think this movie is better than the original. It's not by much, if you check my ranking is only a spot higher. It really only depends on my mood, but right now I'm feeling the second one is better. I think the villains are 10 times stronger, I think a lot of the character moments and stakes are 10 times stronger, and it's still captures all the magic from the original film. This is a great sequel to the original film. But it's not without its problems. For starters, yes, this movie is fun, it still gives us everything great about the original film. But when leaving the theater, all I thought was, yeah that was fun/cool. And sitting down writing this review, it just seems like a distant memory that happened. It didn't seem like I watched the movie today. So it's a movie you can watch. Enjoy your time with it and continue on with your day. Not really something that sticks in your mind for a long time. And although I do love the villain, I do question the plan in the long run. Although all the set up is great, I was very confused on what the villain wanted to do once they won. But, this is a great sequel to the original film that carries out everything you love about the original film, and in my opinion is slightly better than it. It's as funny, but with higher stakes, better villains, and I can't wait to see what future installments have to bring.

The Bad Guys 2 - A Stylish and Fun Seque

The Bad Guys 2 is a highly entertaining sequel that successfully builds on the fun and charm of the first film. It brings back the same group of lovable misfit characters, each with their own unique personality, and adds some fresh twists to keep the story engaging. The movie is full of fast-paced action, clever humor, and heartwarming moments that remind us why we loved these characters in the first place.

One of the film's strongest points is its animation style-vibrant, stylish, and full of energy. The visuals feel like a mix of comic book flair and classic heist-movie cool, which makes it stand out from other animated films. The pacing is snappy, the action scenes are creative without being overwhelming, and the soundtrack adds a lot of flair.

What really makes the movie work, though, is the chemistry between the characters. Their teamwork, banter, and development feel genuine and fun to watch. There's also a nice balance between comedy and deeper themes like trust, redemption, and finding your place in the world. These moments give the film emotional depth without slowing it down.

It's not a perfect film-it doesn't take many risks, and some parts feel a bit familiar if you've seen the first one. But for a sequel, it holds up impressively well and keeps the spirit of the original alive while offering enough new content to feel fresh.

Overall, The Bad Guys 2 is a fun, smart, and well-animated adventure that works for all ages. I'd give it a strong 8 out of 10. It may not break new ground, but it delivers exactly what it promises-and does it with style and heart.

like this gang

After getting released from prison, the Bad Guys are trying to be Good. It's not easy. It doesn't help that new criminal Phantom Bandit is stealing artifacts and leaving clues which point back to the Bad Guys. They decide to prove their innocence by solving the case for Commissioner Luggins. Governor Diane "Crimson Paw" Foxington agrees to help.

I continue to like this gang of characters. In the same breath, I continue to want more out of this franchise. These guys need to have something important to say or have stakes that are bigger than the fun of stealing a fast car. I like to see them grow. I would have liked for some more growth in their second movie. It does suggest another change for the third movie and we'll have to see.

Better, Bolder, and Fartier

A pretty solid sequel compared to the first, which I only found okay. The animation is top-notch, the story is familiar but still a blast, and I loved the fun nods to Mission: Impossible, Lethal Weapon, and even Silence of the Lambs?!? And yes-the fart jokes actually hit!

Definitely recommended!

Good Bad Guys.

'The Bad Guys 2 (2025)' is, first and foremost, a ton of fun. It's energetic, it's enjoyable, it's exactly what you expect it to be but no worse for it. This propulsive, well-paced sequel is brought to life with expressive, high-octane animation that consistently drops your jaw with its gorgeous storybook-meets-Saturday-morning-cartoon aesthetic. Some of it is undeniably inspired by anime, with exaggerated 2D shock reactions and unmistakable sound effects, and it feels really distinct amongst its peers who strive for cartoon realism. It's stylish, it's slick, its visuals totally compliment its tone and atmosphere. It's a joy to look at from its first frame to its last, and it absolutely sprints through its generic but entertaining narrative without feeling rushed or missing a single step. It's a total blast that sweeps you off your feet, packed full of exciting set-pieces, humourous interactions, and satisfying in-the-moment subversions that often lead to some effortlessly - and genuinely - cool moments (not a lot of movies can pull off being cool without seeming like they're trying too hard to do so) that recall silky smooth heist films like 'Ocean's Eleven (2001)' and often scratch the itch left by the cancellation of the 'Sly Cooper' feature. It's arguably not quite as good as its predecessor, but it isn't far off. It's certainly a worthy sequel and it's one of Dreamworks' better animated efforts (it isn't in the top ten, I'd say, but it's pretty close). It isn't deep, but it is entertaining and that's all you really need it to be. Besides, its story is still really solid. Its characters are well-rounded (even if their arcs aren't as big this time around), its relationships are believable, its messages are (very) subtle but important, and its plot is incredibly efficient. There are some superb action scenes sprinkled throughout, and the cast all do a brilliant job at bringing their characters to life (Sam Rockwell is a phenomenal lead, his acting acumen clearly coming across even when he's playing an animated wolf). It's all just really fun, and it looks as good as it feels. This is a really strong follow-up to one of Dreamworks' most successful new efforts. I'd definitely welcome a third entry.

It's TUNA POWER!

DreamWorks Animation maintains its success in animated films with The Bad Guys 2, which is directed by Pierre Perifel and screenplay by Yoni Brenner and Etan Cohen. The adventure with the former bandits turning a new leaf, but this time they find themselves struggling to fit in as good guys and gain the trust of the community. When suspicious robberies begin to occur, they get coerced and reunite once again to pull off an immense heist, but this time with a band of female thieves.

The Bad Guys 2 recurs the all-star voice cast, plus some new strong female voices. These delinquent characters take you into the middle of the fray and use clever tactics to get out of any sticky situation - Mr. Wolf comes up with creative plans and is always two steps ahead. These bad guys will keep you laughing with Marmalade portraying his best impression of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, the witty exchanges from Ms. Tarantula and panicky Mr. Shark, even the flatulent gags from Mr. Piranha that never seem to get old. He certainly has tuna power!

No matter the tragedy these fearless critters encounter, they do not lose sight of their friendship and the meaning of hope. Although they have tarnished pasts, their talent and skills do not get overlooked by Chief Luggins. Perhaps a secret operative could be the next sequel? It would not be a "bad" idea.

Absurdly funny and extremely thrilling

"The Bad Guys 2" continues the unique visual style of its predecessor, but this time the visuals and color palette are even bolder. In some scenes, the film even incorporates 2D hand-drawn animation to add expressive flair and emotional tension, making the viewing experience feel like reading a moving picture book. On top of that, the action sequences are smooth and dynamic, keeping the audience fully engaged.

But, what really surprised me is that, despite being a family movie, the storyline is far from simple. Compared to the first movie, the heist elements in the sequel are more intricate, full of twists, turns, and hidden schemes. The writers, in the movie, constantly put the Bad Guys in morally challenging situations, and their decisions in the face of these dilemmas help to deepen and develop their characters.

Overall, "The Bad Guys 2" is a sequel that surpasses the original. With its distinctive art direction and a plot full of surprises, the film strikes a perfect balance between action and humor. It delivers thrilling moments alongside genuinely funny ones, making it an entertaining and heartwarming movie for audiences of all ages.

"You want to see a real power move?"

Aaron Blabey's oddly ugly-yet-charming characters return in what feels like a looser take on his books, where a new group of villains frame and steal, while the "bad guys" save the day again.

And once again, the visuals are an improvement on the books, the designs enticing, the animation is crisp and colorful, while the film retains that super energetic tone throughout. It is well written and very entertaining. More of this please! Considering there are 20 books already (involving zombies, Aliens and space, Demons and Multiverses).

Still, like last time, the cast leans on recognizable names delivering perfectly serviceable performances.. but nothing that justifies sidelining professional voice actors who could have done just as well (or better).

It is easy to recommend, and hard not to enjoy.

A fun time at the movies

I feel mostly the same about this one as I did the first. Very stylized, funny, active, and constantly engaging with gorgeous animation, constant movement in the cinematography, sleek production design, and absolutely hilarious gags, jokes, and nods to the crime genre. Really consistent entertainment and very fun for the whole family, with jokes balancing between all- appealing and more kid-centered. Rapid-fire wit and pacing help a story with a marvelous central theme and memorable characters backed by an excellent voice cast who you can tell have so much fun in these roles. It's definitely obvious and predictable, not every joke lands, and some sequences stand out more than others, but I'm surprised at the clever storytelling from both this one and its predecessor. I would happily watch more in the future.

Bad Bug...

The cheerful sequel to The Bad Guys arrives courtesy of the same DreamWorks team, determined to squeeze the formula dry. The film is packed with spectacular action scenes... spectacular mostly in number, since it barely gives you a second to breathe. All, of course, sprinkled with humor and some flashy character design, just right to keep the little ones delighted.

It's fun, lighthearted, and runs as if it were in a hurry to reach the end credits. Once again, it leans on the same tricks as the first one-why change what already worked?-and stands as a safe bet for family audiences. And, just in case, it throws in a few nods for adults, so they don't get too bored.

Decent

I would say that the Bad Guys 2 is pretty similar in quality to the original Bad Guys film in 2022, and I enjoyed both to the same degree. It's a solid animated film, and the characters are really likable (Mr. Wolf and Mr. Shark in particular for me).

However, after the ending of the first Bad Guys movie, which turned the Bad Guys into Good Guys, I think the story and setting lost some of its charm. It would have been nice to explore that in more depth, but it also feels impossible to reverse. I quite liked the ending and would definitely watch a third installment.

Good Movie

Rating - 8.0: Overall, a surprisingly good animated heist movie that is carried by great animation and strong characters, especially Sam Rockwell's Mr Wolf, as the movie is an entertaining ride that makes you really care about what happens next to this cast; I never watched the first movie, but seeing this made me sad that I missed something really special.

Direction - Good: The direction on a macroscale creates a fun, fast-paced aesthetic in a visually appealing world that memorable characters have to navigate; The direction on a microscale is good as the banter makes you really care about the characters; Storytelling is pretty simple as, at the end of the day, this is just a children's movie; It builds tension naturally through its action sequences and does keep you on your toes as it is not as formulaic as you would think a children's movie would be

Story - Pretty Good to Good: The concept is a sequel to *The Bad Guys*, with them coming out of retirement for one "last job" to save their name; the plot structure is pretty straightforward, but not as formulaic as you think; character writing is very strong as it helps personify these characters and make you really care about them, especially Wolf, as you see his struggle with whether or not he should become good

Screenplay - Good: The dialogue is surprisingly strong for a kids' movie as it is pretty well written and entertaining; The humor is fun for all ages; The symbolism is surprisingly well done as it deals with the morality of wanting to be good, despite everyone thinking you can't change; The foreshadowing is actually not present as this movie is more about subverting your expectations

Acting - Good: Sam Rockwell - Good to Very Good (His natural charisma and experienced acting really fits this character as he really brings to life this leader of the group, the Big Bad Wolf; He has good chemistry with the cast), Marc Maron - Pretty Good to Good (Plays his role well and has good chemistry with the cast), Awkwafina - Pretty Good to Good (Plays her role well and has good chemistry with the cast), Craig Robinson - Pretty Good to Good (More of a comedic relief character, but he has good chemistry with the cast and plays his role well), Anthony Ramos - Pretty Good to Good (Plays his role well, and he has good chemistry with the cast), Zazie Beetz - Good (Has really strong chemistry with Rockwell and really brings this Fox character to life), Danielle Brooks - Pretty Good (Plays her villainous role well), Natasha Lyonne - Pretty Good (Plays her villainous role well and has good chemistry with Snake), Maria Bakalova - Decent to Pretty Good (Plays her villainous role decently well), Alex Borstein - Pretty Good to Good (Lois;), Rest of the cast - Pretty Good to Good (There is strong chemistry in the cast, and this helps make the movie enjoyable, as you really care for these characters)

Score - Pretty Good: Help set this heist mood and make the movie feel entertaining and exhilarating

Soundtrack - Pretty Bad: Your typical out-of-touch studio is forcing five-year-old pop music into a movie just to make audiences think you're 'hip'

Editing - Good to Very Good: Well edited as it helped make the movie feel unique and fast-paced, especially when coupled with the changes in animation style

Sound - Good: Well executed and helped make the action sequences really entertaining

Animation - Great: I actually really enjoyed this animation style, as it effectively shows the power this new hybrid 2D-3D style animation can have in building a world and telling a story

Pacing - Pacing is about right as the movie has a short runtime but still feels pretty fast

Climax - Climax is very entertaining, despite it stumbling on the landing a little bit

Tone - Tone is very much an animated heist movie for all ages

Final Notes - Saw an early screening; have not seen the first movie.

I like the first part more!

A group of notorious ex-cons trying to navigate life after their 'involuntary retirement' post their prison sentences gets caught up in a web of crime and deceit, an intriguing premise that in my opinion, deserved a more layered approach in the writing.

There are definitely fun and thrill in the script and the animations are a real treat as well. However, both characters and storyline fell short of the spark and excitement I was craving for, especially since I enjoyed the first movie and was eager to witness a significant upgrade over the last instalment.

Sadly, the film seemed to have taken a basic, straightforward path with some pretty predictable plot lines, and the humour, for the most part, missed the landing for me.

On a positive note though, that whole space shuttle take-off sequence was fantastic; it was definitely the highlight of the film!

A M A Z I N G 👊🏻

It got all the goodness from Kung Fu Panda, Ice Age and Madagascar, Kitty reminded me of Tigress, the cast is exceptional, it's fuuuunny, you'll root for the villains as much as for the Bad guys turned Good guys. Music is spot on, with cues to discover and enjoy. It's action packed, with subtle morale, better than Superman, better than Fantastic 4, and both of them together. Great movie, can't wait to see it again tomorrow.

A slick, funny, and satisfying second heist that keeps this franchise's charm fully intact.

Three years after the slick, stylish surprise hit The Bad Guys (2022), DreamWorks returns with The Bad Guys 2, and it's just as clever, colorful, and cool as its predecessor. This animated heist comedy sequel keeps the fun energy of the first film while raising the stakes with a fresh twist: our reformed rogues are pulled out of retirement to team up with an all-female crew for one last, high-risk job.

Sam Rockwell's Mr. Wolf once again leads the charge, reluctantly agreeing to a high-stakes mission that pits the Bad Guys against their most cunning adversary yet. The antagonists' big evil scheme is deliciously over-the-top, with enough twists to keep both kids and adults hooked. Without spoiling too much, it's a plan that's as flashy as it is devious-exactly the kind of cartoon villainy that makes this franchise pop.

Much like the first film, The Bad Guys 2 thrives on whip smart banter, kinetic animation, and genre-savvy winks to classic heist movies. The action set pieces are big, bold, and beautifully animated, with some moments feeling like a cross between Ocean's Eleven and a Saturday morning cartoon. The laughs come steadily, with clever sight gags and well-timed punchlines, though the film still makes space for genuine moments of teamwork and trust.

Verdict While it doesn't drastically reinvent the formula, The Bad Guys 2 delivers exactly what fans loved about the original: stylish visuals, snappy dialogue, lovable rogues, and a plot that moves with the precision of a well-planned getaway. The villains' grand scheme is a highlight, the new characters add fresh energy, and the humor lands more consistently helped by Awkwafina's more measured delivery.

It's proof that sometimes, a sequel doesn't have to be bigger or louder to be great it just has to be as cool as the first.

The Bad Guys 2 Is Pure Animated Brilliance

The Bad Guys 2 is an absolute triumph, a sequel that not only lives up to the original but surpasses it in every possible way. Pierre Perifel proves once again that he's a master of animated storytelling, blending style, emotion, and wit into a film that is as fun as it is heartfelt.

The story is sharp, fresh, and full of heart. It dives deeper into the emotional lives of the characters while delivering fast-paced thrills and clever twists. The balance between action, comedy, and character development is perfectly tuned.

The returning cast of lovable antiheroes is even more endearing this time around. Mr. Wolf continues to charm with his charisma and conflict, and his connection with Diane gives the film an emotional weight that feels genuine and powerful. Their bond is the soul of the movie.

New characters like the Bad Girls add a whole new layer of energy and intrigue. They're complex, fun, and absolutely electric on screen. You can't help but enjoy every moment they're involved.

Visually, the film is a masterpiece. The animation style remains slick and vibrant, and the action sequences are exhilarating without ever being overwhelming. The musical score is punchy and dynamic, elevating each scene to cinematic brilliance.

At its core, The Bad Guys 2 is about redemption, trust, and what it means to choose who you want to be - and it delivers those themes with sincerity and heart.

This sequel is everything fans hoped for and more - clever, bold, and bursting with personality. DreamWorks has struck gold again.

Picks up from where the first film left off!

The Bad Guys 2 picks up from where the first film left off, expanding the world with fresh characters and a plot that feels new, even if the overall rhythm follows the familiar beats of its predecessor. The pacing is smooth and keeps things on a basic but steady level of engagement, never dragging yet never soaring beyond expectation.

The core gang - Wolf, Snake, Shark, Piranha, and Tarantula - evolve decently, though not in any extraordinary ways. The newcomers, while compelling and adding flavor to the story, could have benefitted from a little more background to feel fully fleshed out.

Stylistically, the film retains the sharp visual flair of the first installment. The direction keeps the energy alive, balancing comedy, action, and heart with confidence. While the visual humor lands effectively, the dialogue-driven comedy occasionally dips into juvenile territory, making it less sharp compared to the original.

Where The Bad Guys 2 truly shines is in its visuals. The animation is superb, with impressive world-building and lively action sequences that remain engaging throughout. The score complements the energy well, adding to the spectacle without overshadowing it.

On a thematic level, the film touches on friendship, trust, and teamwork - not in an adult or deeply mature sense, but with a teenage-level accessibility that works for its intended audience. It manages to be both fun and lightly emotional, with a climax that feels satisfying and well-earned.

Sum up - The Bad Guys 2 may not reinvent itself, but it delivers on entertainment with strong animation, engaging direction, and a spirit that makes it a worthy follow-up.

It Exists, Then It Doesn't

Unremarkable, uninvolving, this is one of those films that exists neutrally for as long as you're watching it ... then it just disappears from your mind. The Bad Guys are going straight, with a plot for which the Maguffin is (and I'm not joking here) something called Maguffinite. As some point they end up on a rocket going into space because ... reasons. The rocket is owned by a company called MoonX. Yes, MoonX. There are a handful of half-decent jokes, but other than that there's little to remember. My daughter (16 y/o) enjoyed, and though it was better than the first one, so what do I know?

Just Not Brave Enough to be Bad!

The biggest problem with high-concept films like Bad Guys is that they rely entirely on their initial premise. And just like Despicable Me, once the "bad guys" stop being bad, the title-and the whole concept-starts to fall apart. The screenplay here is stuck from the very beginning, trying to make the good guys bad without actually making them bad, because they're supposed to be good-but were kind of already good to begin with. Confused? Yep, exactly. Now imagine trying to write that.

The first Bad Guys didn't exactly blow anyone away, but it got by on novelty. The only real way to make a sequel work is if the characters were memorable or endearing enough to survive beyond the original's gimmick. Think Toy Story, which pulled it off four times, or Shrek, who still manages to get kids lining up for photos despite some truly rough sequels. Unfortunately, the Bad Guys just don't have that same unique appeal. It's not that they're unlikeable-they just don't stand out enough to make you care once the novelty wears off.

That brings us to Bad Guys 2 itself. Does it work as a film? Unsurprisingly, it struggles under the weight of its conceptual flaws. You can't really root for the "bad guys" in a story where their problems are self-inflicted and their moral arc is basically a loop. The film is so busy trying to twist the narrative-making the good guys bad again so they can become good again-that it becomes exhausting to follow. It's overloaded (ironically) with MacGuffins and diversions, and by the end, nothing feels satisfying or earned.

What's frustrating is that a more daring concept could've saved this. Imagine a version where society refuses to accept the bad guys' reform, pushing them back into villainy. That could've asked deeper questions about redemption and the system's role in change. It would've been a tighter, more meaningful story. But that idea is dropped almost immediately, leaving us with a safe, forgettable mishmash of spy clichés and heist movie leftovers.

Visually, the animation suffers from the same identity crisis. During the fast-paced, Looney Tunes-style action sequences, the film comes alive-but everything in between feels flat. The half-3D, half-2D aesthetic never commits to either direction, so it ends up feeling more like a compromise than a bold creative choice.

In truth, Bad Guys 2 isn't unwatchable. But nothing here is going to set your world on fire either. The franchise might still have potential-but only if it embraces what makes it fun: letting the bad guys actually be bad. Push the animation style further, ditch the redemption loop, and lean into the chaos. That's the movie people might actually want to see.
