Something Blue
Ashton's daughter Nora is getting married to Derek. He works for Ashton's firm.
When Derek enquires about a wedding gift he got from a known criminal. Ashton tells Derek the truth about his dealings but asks him to keep it a secret.
Only Derek brags about it to his friends and a exotic dancer at a strip club.
Now knowing that Derek is a liability. On his wedding day celebration, Ashton gets Derek drunk and stages an accident with a vehicle. He drowns in the pond at the country club golf course where the wedding reception took place.
Ashton also grabs back a family heirloom he gave Derek as a gift.
Elsbeth becomes intrigued when Nora mentioned that Derek never drove at night and did not like beer. While Ashton hoped Nora would get over her new husband's death but remember how good the wedding was.
Later Ashton tries to point the blame on the wedding dance choreographer. His daughter admitted to sleeping with him.
Keegan-Michael Key was smarmy but bearable, he seemed to have realised that Elsbeth could drag him down.
There was a nice tribute to Fosse/Verdon as Elsbeth uses dance to trap Ashton.
The series arc takes a turn as Captain Wagner feels he has been set up.
My favorite of my new favorite!
It's All About Elsbeth!
Yes, it is reminiscent of the iconic Columbo series, starring Peter Falk. Both shows begin with a crime being committed and the audience in on the murder. There is no mystery here, simply an explanation how a likable lead character ultimately solves the crime and brings the culprit to justice.
Frankly, it's a breath of fresh air when compared to all the other crime shows which focus on guns, chaos and violence. No "shoot-em-ups" here.
This episode focuses on a wedding, a corrupt and evil father and a goofy Elsbeth who masks her intellect with a kooky outward demeanor.
Is the plot believable? Maybe not but it sure is fun!

- ट्रिवियाAt Elsbeth's party at the end of the episode, aside from the series regulars, the guests are all people Elsbeth has encountered during the cases from the earlier episodes in the series.
- गूफ़At 14:40 they're questioning that it might not be an accident, after having treating it as if it was. How stupid could they possibly be? When the body is "driven" into the pond, the victim's mouth is taped shut. How could anyone possibly consider that an accident? Someone really goofed here.
When Derek was found by the police, no tape was reported covering his mouth; there was nothing apparent to suggest foul play at the outset. When Elsbeth, Donnelly, and Blanke examine the golf cart, it's mentioned the medical examiner found no water in the decedent's lungs, ruling out drowning as the cause of death. It's later surmised Ashton Hayes used water-soluble tape to bind Derek's mouth, when Elsbeth was given a tour of the club's kitchen by the manager.
