Rated N For Nobody

Anyone who's old and wise enough to be drawn in by the 1980s nostalgia will be disappointed by the flat, insipid story. Teenagers will probably be put off by the cardboard characters, the cartoonish depictions of high school social pressures and the lame antagonist reveal. The movie's too violent and profane for young kids. So who is it for? Apparently nobody.

The bummer is that it could've been a fun, campy throwback. But that would've required a stronger story, sharper dialogue, better-realized characters and generally more effort than what was evidently put into the production. A synthesizer soundtrack and neon credits alone do not make for a worthwhile '80s slasher homage.

Not Good

I almost never leave reviews, but I had to leave one this time. This movie was not good. I loved the original fear Street movies (especially 1978) and I love campy slasher movies. So in light of this I was looking forward to this next fear street installment but I was left severely disappointed The story line lacked any depth, suspense, or even surprise. There was no build up no creepy someones watching me or unexplained sound in the dark of night and the whole thing was rushed 10 minutes into the movie their reference a plot device meant to explain main characters social status I think everyone in it did a great job with the script they were given but ultimately Netflix missed the mark by MILES !!!!

Could have been better honestly

I've watched all the fear street trilogy and that had better kills and better characters and better villains... this was super rushed and the kills were so boring and the trailer gave away who the killer was so this was disappointing! Could have made it more darker and bloody and put more time in this movie and made it more like prom night (1980) this was not scary at all and nothing was interesting. My favorite character was Megan because she was an interesting character but everyone else was just trash. It was rushed and there should have been a plot twist because the trailer showed to much of the scenes and should have teased us more.

Generic predictable movie chatgpt probably wrote the whole script

The only thing I somewhat enjoyed about this movie was its attempt at 80s-style cinematography. It had that nostalgic glow, but it's not even close to the immersive atmosphere you get in shows like Stranger Things or Euphoria. That alone barely earns it 2 stars. The rest? Honestly, a disaster. The acting is flat, unconvincing, and often cringeworthy. The dialogue is so poorly written it feels like it was thrown together in a rush without any thought. It lacks rhythm, wit, or even basic realism. The pacing drags, scenes feel repetitive, and it completely fails to build suspense or emotional depth. As someone else said, you really do have to turn off your brain to get through this. It's like a cheap, uninspired knockoff of Scream, but without the cleverness or thrills. Just another cookie-cutter slasher flick pretending to be retro-cool while delivering nothing new or worth remembering. A missed opportunity, plain and simple.

Well..

Will start off by saying this movie tried to totally capture the 80's vibe, unfortunately that's where the rest fails.

Was it clichéd? Yes! From storyline, etc. But is anything original anymore,so you can almost overlook that issue.

No spoilers, regarding the killings: Was anyone shocked on who's responsible & why? It wasn't an oh my gosh thing, even with the ending twists unfortunately.

The cinematography although do get it was a whole nostalgic feel of that era, just came off instead as poor lighting & film quality.

Majority of actors chosen to their acting was ok,but nothing that you will remember once credits roll.

Music decisions was good, but again it was carrying that 80's theme.

The horror element during specific scenes came off cheap, almost what you'd expect by amateurs or film students.. Unless that was the point? Trying to be like 80's horror.

If they were going for that campy to B-Rated style,it wasn't accomplished even by those standards-Was like Hallmark,AMC or SyFy tried a collaborative project & failed.

Not something will rewatch again, but a popcorn flick to pass your time once.

Fairly good TV horror flick but NOT 1988

The researchers, costume designers and stylists should be ashamed of their interpretation of 1988. Missed the mark badly on the hair styles, makeup and women's clothing. The dialogue is not from that era either. A little more attention to detail was needed. The original trilogy did much better.

That said, it's pretty good for a Netflix movie. The kills are gruesome and acting is solid by all the cast (just a little modern). Storyline is somewhat predictable but it plays out just like an 80s horror film, so that's ok.

Soundtrack has some great bangers, mostly from the early 80s rather than 1988 but they add a good nostalgic vibe.

Just Horrible

After watching this, I feel like I wasted an hour and a half of my life. The acting is atrocious and the dialogue sucks. Everything is so predictable and the plot goes nowhere, even the characters are meaningless. There are too many plot holes and the killings are obviously fake. The whole thing with the father makes no sense, especially how it ties to the ending. This is absolutely one of the worst "horror/ comedy" movies I have ever seen. The whole "prom queen" and "going places" is just left with no explanation or afterthought. Plus, why would the killer even murder out in the open - makes no sense. Would not recommend to anybody. 👎

Overhated and underrated

This movie is getting way too much hate, despite how good it is. It's not perfect, but it is very good. Firstly, the kills are gruesome. Very gory and bloody but not disgustingly violent. The acting is very good and the performances convey how desirable the title of "Prom Queen" is to them. It's rare I point out a soundtrack in a movie, but the soundtrack was really good in this one. Plenty of good 80s tunes blasting through the house as you watch this movie. This movie also tries its best to feel like a movie set in 1988. I think it definitely succeeded in that department. In typical R. L. Stine fashion, the twist was very good. The whole movie I was trying to guess who the murderer was and never figured it out. Overall, this movie is a great tribute to classic 80s slasher movies and is definitely not deserving of all the hate it is receiving.

A mindless horror movie

This movie is a complete waste of time-dumb and mindless for the most part. The ending makes little to no sense and leaves you more confused than satisfied. While the core idea had some potential, it's completely ruined by a weak screenplay, poor direction, and weak performances. The prom scenes do make sense in the story, but they're stretched far beyond what's necessary, which kills the momentum and adds to the boredom. The characters lack depth, the dialogues feel forced, and the emotional beats fall flat. What could've been an engaging and memorable film ends up being a frustrating, forgettable experience. Definitely not worth your time or attention.

Have people forgotten how to enjoy a movie

Yes, this isn't a perfect movie, but it's a fun slasher movie and the deaths were fun.

This movie has a fun premise, it's an enjoyable film and I found myself laughing at the absurdity of it. The movie movie doesn't take itself too seriously but it does have a fun gore factor without becoming too much of a bloody mess.

Don't listen to the people voting this down it's not a terrible movie and it's not the best slasher, but it is fun. So watch it and enjoy it, it's fun, silly, gory and a movie where you don't really have to think about it a lot.

Saying that though there is always the fun of guessing who the killer is. So please enjoy the movie.

Not Perfect, But Worth Watching

The movie feels more like an attempt to shock than to truly build suspense. The characters sometimes react unrealistically, especially in intense moments, and the acting in those scenes is quite weak. Some of the kills are over-the-top and gruesome without adding much to the story. What bothered me most was how some characters acted like nothing serious had happened, as if they were dealing with a broken toy.

The story tries to create tension around Lori and Tiffany, but the characters' motivations aren't always clear or believable, which hurts the overall impact. Still, I have a soft spot for the Fear Street series, even though this film isn't really a direct continuation of the previous ones.

In the end, I'm giving it a 6 out of 10, mostly because of my personal connection to the Fear Street universe.

They don't make iconic scream queens like they used to

Tbh, the film isn't that bad, but the lead is weak and the twists are not surprising. The killing were gruesome but some felt clunky. But again, I think the lead, Lori Granger, played well by India Fowler, was a weak scream queen. It's all the writing problem, she is literally so blagh and boring to the core - I can't believe no one thought to rewrite her bland narration.

I grew up with Neve Campbell in Scream, so any slasher lead girl will always be compared to her. Biased at it is, I felt the newer slasher films always fumbled upon writing a good lead girl. Especially here, Lori, has no depth nor sass - she is just too passive for my liking. Give me a Scream Queen who can kick ass, man. Also, the twist and turns were kind of predictable - a poor entry to the already solid Fear Street trilogy in my opinion.

Just Awful

So bad.

Barely related to the original trilogy, the only connection being the location and names, and it is a curse upon them!

Teen slasher flicks often make no sense, with characters making dumb decisions and inexplicable plot twists. This emulates the whole genre with truly awful, pointless scenes and laughable - honestly laugh out loud - kills, so much so that I though the twist would be that this was some fever dream or in universe fan fiction.

I'd say the only partially redeeming aspects were the three leads who had some good quiet moments to actually act, in between the comedy slayings and the classic retro soundtrack.

good horror edition

Netflix has not had an original horror in some time and im glad they came back relitivly strong with this fourth in the fear street series. Set in shadyside highschool in 1988 it follows a group of young woman that are all up for being nominated as prom queen but as they go missing main girl lori or should I say best friend reagan relizes something is a miss. Sure it could be predicatble but its a fun film and we have been needing a good slasher. The killer I think is unique enough for this film and something I have not personally seen . Acting was good and the screen queens were good. Overall a safe horror film but an enjoyable one.

Switch your brain off and go for the ride

There's a terrible story-feature that is creeping into more and more movies recently, where it will begin with a scene or dialogue from the end of the film and then flash back to the start. 'Fear Street: Prom Queen' has it and it is absolutely terrible and unnecessary. It completely ruins the final act when it actually comes around. I understand 'The White Lotus' is huge at the moment, but this is not the part of that show that others should be copying.

That gripe aside, this was a reasonably fun ride. I didn't enjoy the first 'Fear Street' trilogy much. Too supernatural and silly for my liking. This one, while quite over the top at times, was at least a realistic story. And who doesn't love a whodunit?

The movie is set in the 80s and has just about every song you would associate with that decade in it. It's a very good sounding film it has to be said.

For what it was I thought this was about as good as it could be. Switch your brain off for 90 minutes and enjoy the ride. 7/10.

Dreadful

Honestly, I really liked the previous Fear Street movies. This one however is truly dreadful in every conceivable way. The characters are just so dull, from the mean girl prom queen, who let's be honest would struggle to be described as a plain Jane. To the supposed heroine of the story, who is completely nondescript.

The dialogue is wooden, the kills are boring, there is no genuine fear or tension throughout the whole movie. The soundtrack tries to capture the essence of 80s slasher movies but actually ends up being irritating.

The killers outfit is dreadful, it doesn't induce fear just makes them look like an idiot. I'm not even sure why I'm giving this movie a 4.

Boring

Diabolically horrible, if you compare it to the other movies in the fear street franchise. It's not that fun and entertaining, if you think about it, everything was expected and wasted it's time on build up of the killing scenes. The saving grace was only some of the kills. It's not very impressive on scenes alone, not even the characters are interesting, they're all one dimension. I feel like this was rushed and could've done more better if they tackled the characters more rather than just, throwing them at our faces. If fear street wasn't slapped on it you might just assume this doesn't belong to fear street at all.

Fun horror film

I'm giving this a 10 star just to offset the other moronic reviews, in reality this is a solid 7 or 8 out of 10, some of the reviews I was reading were hilarious, low scores because this fun slasher flick didn't have more "character development" (face palm) that person has obviously never in their life watched a horror movie before lol. I loved the first 3 movies and had no idea this was dropping, I would probably say this one wasn't as good as the first three movies, but it was still great, a little obvious in places but it's a turn off the brain and enjoy kinda movie, if you liked the first three movies then you'll enjoy this one!

Waste of 1.5 hours

I went into this movie with not even the highest expectations yet somehow they weren't even close to being met. It isn't an exaggeration when I say not one actor delivered a good performance. The dialogue, plot, and kills were all insanely underwhelming. Please do not listen to the people that say to turn off your "logical brain" and simply "enjoy the movie." The value of even semi decent story writing has been lost. So so dissapointing in comparison to the rest of the Fear Street movies, and the ending was so clearly an attempt to keep the movie interesting but just ended up laughably falling short.
