Early on, this film alludes to the challenges Jamie Wyeth faced at the start of his art career. His father's and grandfather's artistic shadows were huge, and some voices in the art world simply described him as "another Wyeth."
But the film shows just how different he is from the previous two generations -- in terms of his subject matter, the media he has used, and the way he has lived his life.
We see remarkable contrasts in his artistic existence. There are glamorous periods, where he hobnobs with Warhol and paints celebrities like Schwarzenegger, Nureyev, and JFK. And there are pastoral times when he's socializing with (and painting) animals on his. Delaware farm, or seagulls on his New England island home.
It's a fully realized portrait of a famous portraitist. An eye-opening and fully engrossing 80 minutes.
