6.5/10 STARS - I didn't realize before going into this, that it's categorized as a "rom-com slasher," so the comedic elements to this film were a little bit of a surprise at first. However, once I fully settled into the groove of what this movie was going for, some elements were easier to forgive. There IS one plot point I had a major issue with, but despite that, it was still an enjoyable watch. I enjoyed the chemistry and comedic interactions between the two leads and the pacing was fine. The kills were pretty gnarly, so I think it'll scratch the itch of most horror fans in that regard. While I'm not a fan of rom-coms, I AM a fan of horror, so something like this is right up my alley. No couple is safe on Valentine's day, the Heart eyes killer, known by the news and broadcasters as The HEK, relentlessly kills unsuspecting couples.
I was seriously looking forward to this, they made it look quite something in the trailers, I was expecting something along the lines of Scream, what I wasn't expecting was a film that had horror elements, but was 70% romcom, I'm not one hundred percent sure it worked.
It definitely deserves a couple of points for originality, I can't think of many films that have emade me laugh and bad a couple of decent jump scares. The restaurant scene also made me chuckle, amusing to see the man being objectified, it was funny.
If they'd done less of the soppy stuff and more scares, it would have worked a whole lot better, there were essentially three big scare scenes, you couldn't really blame the killer going after that awful couple at the start.
Interesting, if flawed.

Heart Eyes delivers a wild and enjoyable comic romp infused with a gleeful splatter of blood-soaked chaos. The film strikes a bold balance between horror and humor, creating a delightfully twisted ride that keeps audiences laughing and cringing in equal measure.
The cast's comedic timing shines, with the lead bringing charm and awkwardness to the role. The chemistry between characters enhances the absurdity, making the escalating madness all the more engaging. The creative direction stands out with stylized action sequences and inventive kills that keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
While the film may not be for the faint-hearted, its self-aware tone and sharp wit make it an absolute treat for fans of horror comedies.
Heart Eyes is a blood-splattered joyride, reminding us that sometimes love - and (s)laughter - can be found in the most unexpected places. A must-watch for those who like their laughs served with a side of mayhem.

Do not expect cinematic genius.
Do not expect Oscar worthy writing, acting or even costuming.
Do not expect to be scared, there wasn't any visual only mild suspense.
Do expect to cringe at some awkward meet-cute moments.
Do expect campy gore that isn't realistic in the slightest.
Do expect to laugh out loud because you just didn't expect something so predictable to be sort of refreshing.
I seriously guffawed at this well paced and goofy movie.
It was awkwardly cute. As if a Hallmark movie fell in love with a Jason Voorhees obsessed teenager and they wrote a movie about it. I think it only got an R rating because of the swearing and perhaps the visual of a sex toy. There wasn't any visual sex (but there is audible thrown in for gross factor) or nudity in this film.
As we were leaving the theater, I thought to myself "that was a fun movie!". It wasn't serious. There was not a lot of thinking involved. I just enjoyed being on a break from reality. I was simply entertained from the beginning until the credits.

This is not a horror film.
This is a romcom with slasher elements but the kills are presented in a very goofy way. The main actress is Julia Stiles reincarnated in Gen Z and the twenty-somethings featured in the story evoke silly teen comedies of the 2000s. The darkest thing about this movie was the dark cyan color grading--also found in abundance in the 2000s in teen horrors. The dialogue and characters are cartoonish, the protagonist is invincible even in her juvenile and clumsy silliness, and the movie, admittedly, is successful in creating an odd fusion romcom with horror but it only works if you were expecting Bring It On, Not Another Teen Movie, or Scary Movie. But sprinkle in a few funny killings.
It's also by SONY. Do with that what you will.
The first and last kills would probably be the only interesting thing to a viewer expecting a horror movie. Toss the rest.

This was a pretty cool movie and I knew it would be from the very first scene it was a nice spin on slasher movies it wasn't to serious or overly dramatic it was actually kind of funny and romantic but just with a lot of gory killings which was super cool also there was a twist on who the killer was and it wasn't as obvious as it usually is in these kinds of slashers, the actors were all pretty good and Holt and Golding had good chemistry which made it cool, the storyline wasn't great byt the ending was pretty good it's definitely worth the watch and something I could possibly watch again but definitely doesn't compare to some of the more popular slashers overall I'd rate this a 6.3 out of 10.
Behold! Now we have a slasher rom-com, something that I've never thought would go together. But I guess even water and oil can get mixed up to a certain level. One minute this movie will mellow your heart out and the next minute it will pump your heart up with adrenaline. It's a really unique experience I think. I mean, filling someone's head with romance and then suddenly shaking them up with slasher is a very interesting concept. And after watching it, I stand by what I wrote. It's a unique experience, in a good way. I tend to ignore people who says that there's nothing new about the rom-com part, that it's overdone. Cause rom-com is like water or air, it's always the same, but then again we consume it every second of our lives. So shut it, pessimists! And to those who speaks ill about the slasher part, I say this, "It's slasher, what do you expect? It's always like that!"
To me, this movie deserves at least 7 stars for it's ingenuity.
Heart Eyes was a good attempt at a holiday themed horror movie, but ultimately didn't know what it wanted to be. A romantic comedy mixed with horror elements seems like an interesting idea, but unfortunately ended up dull. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding are great in their roles and the character design for the Heart Eyes Killer was cool. The story was a little bit all over the place and doesn't have much of a payoff in the end. The kills were fun and creative, but usually done for laughs. Overall, if you are looking for a silly and dumb horror movie for a Valentine's Day date night, Heart Eyes is a good choice.
It's no surprise that Christopher Landon was behind this in the story/ production because the first thing I thought when seeing the trailer is how the tone and look of this screamed happy death day. Well this is basically the same thing with minor tweaks in story and visuals to have that Valentine theme . Not to say it's not passable but it just seems so recycled. The comedy aspect I think is what I have the the most problem with. It's all so forced and unnatural . I miss when horror had moderate amounts of comic relief instead of now alternating jokes with kills. The horror factor loses its luster due to this . Now I will say the brutality is quite effective and the pace is well done. Overall it's forgettable but somewhat intriguing .
Came into this essentially hoping for a carbon copy of 'Scream' with a Valentines Day type twist to it. The only twist in that regard is that tremendously more of this film consisted of a rom- com than was desired for this critic. Scream had comedic moments also but that's not what made the movies and was just icing.
This movies best part was the opening scene with the introduction of Heart Eyes and even that felt quite medicore. The hope was of course it would build from here.
This movie is chock full of modern day Gen Z comedy, which personally I find irritating as opposed to funny. I don't mind it in small amounts , but to put as much of it in there as there in combination with the obviously unrealistic slasher moments is a bit over the top for me. However, I noticed people in the theatre did seem to get a laugh if this is your thing.
The lead characters Ally (Olivia Holt) and Jay (Mason Gooding) are fine for what they're given. However the story is even incredibly weak for a slasher. The killers were also incredibly predictable for me and I'm admittedly not that great at predicting them in the Scream franchise.
My moviegoing partner is not particularly into slashers so I felt a little embarrassed about even attending with after . Needless to say, I was the only one left to watch the end credit scene.
The scariest part about this movie for me is that I have a hunch there will be a Heart Eyes 2.

A thrilling comedic and surprisingly romantic twist on the horror genre; its mix of suspense and humor makes for an unexpected rollercoaster of emotions keeping viewers engaged from start to finish.
The two main characters have strong chemistry and their witty dialogue and relatable personalities making the film both funny and enjoyable while packed with gore and tense moments in a way that is lighthearted.
The film doesn't take itself too seriously blending lightheartedness with its darker themes
The pacing is fast and steady with no dull moments and every scene feels necessary to the ongoing thriller storyline; the films tone is suspenseful yet funny keeping things fresh with surprising twists.
The visuals are gripping reminiscent of "saw" but with a modern lighter touch - the acting is solid, jokes are timely and appeals to both younger and older audiences.
While the anti-heroes backstory could have been explored more; the film still provides a satisfying conclusion by the end but some plot holes may leave viewers guessing.
This is perfect for a valentines day viewing and is a must watch for anyone looking for a fresh take on the horror thriller genre with a comedic twist.

A romantic horror comedy with a serial killer twist, what could possibly go wrong? Much to my surprise, Heart Eyes delivers the goods.
The plot flows seamlessly between laughs, carnage, and that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you see two attractive people fall in love. Even if you find the latter sappy and annoying, Heart Eyes has just enough graphic violence to keep the gore hounds entertained.
Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding are a terrific duo as Ally and Jay. Their relationship starts off rocky, but with every twist and turn they must rely on each other to survive as their chemistry grows. There is also a good amount of comedic energy between the entire cast, and you can tell everyone is having fun.
As for the star of the show, the "HEK" is a menacing figure who brutally dismembers their next victims and does it with style points. I think slasher fans will be thoroughly pleased with the creative kills, and have their appetites filled.
Heart Eyes is far from perfect but I could see this movie going down as a cult classic or at least a Valentine's Day favorite.

This movie starts off strong with 5 kills in first 5-10 minutes that were cool and fun. Then turns into a corny "love story" with super scripted story lines that is drawn out for 30-40 minutes with no action. The storyline is predictable and plays out like a wanna be I know what you did last summer type of vibe with empty police stations and a drive in movie theater playing 60s movies...yeah sure..🙄 the comedy of the movies misses and story sucks. This movie is lame af. Don't waste your time seeing this in the theater, wait until it streams but I don't see it getting picked up beyond Tubi......

Reviews labeling this as just a rom-com or a horror movie fail to recognize that horror itself has multiple subgenres:
If you can move past that aspect, this is very much a slasher-horror film, packed with classic tropes and solid kill scenes for fans of blood-splatter horror. Depending on who you are, these tropes may determine whether or not this is the film for you.
I appreciate the film's comedic elements, which at times give off Ryan Murphy's Scream Queens meets the Scream franchise vibes.
Worth a watch-6/10!
- Dark comedy/rom-com horror (blending two subgenres) fits well with the film's release timing. Plus, comedy is often used in horror to provide relief, so the entire movie isn't overwhelmingly intense.

- Engaging for the most part, though it does slow down toward the ending. The two leads have strong chemistry that translates well on screen.

Heart Eyes is not perfect but considering the garbage Hollywood has been turning out, it's fairly well done and enjoyable. I usually don't like horror films that also try to be comedies, but almost the total reason this works is the casting of the 2 leads. Not only do they play well together, they genuinely have chemistry and both are written as likable characters. They're both great looking. Considering it's not a total horror movie there is still plenty of suspense and loads of blood and gore. There are some very well written scenes and the romance angle works. It's a slasher, horror, cute romance movie with a few laughs and it's one of very few new films worth seeing.

Pretty mediocre slow burn that tried very hard to be My Bloody Valentine - spoiler alert, it's not. Heart Eyes is exactly what you'd expect from your run-of-the-mill slasher: a masked killer, some gory deaths, and a group of characters making increasingly stupid decisions. It's super derivative, hitting every trope in the book without adding much of its own personality.
That said, tying it to Valentine's Day was a nice touch, and some of the humour actually landed quite well. Olivia Holt was easily the best part of the film - she pretty much carried the entire thing. The rest of the cast was serviceable, but no one else really stood out.
Overall, it's worth a watch if you're in the mood for a festive horror flick, but there's no rush. You might as well wait until it hits streaming.

This could have developed into a sharp little slasher like Killer Book Club or Totally Killer two films that both Elsie and Molly could enjoy.
Sadly, it begins with such a pedestrian and unoriginal opener that I thought it was a send up of other horrors-Scream clearly set the standard here.
The ' romance' between Jay and Ally is abysmal with zero chemistry between the (and it's not young Olivia Holt's fault she looks like Kelly Wood!) I guessed who the killer was as there wasn't many other characters to choose from throughout the film.
It does have some gory moments to please the gore crowd.

Was it a good movie? Sure! Was it what I expected? Not at all.
After having read what it was about and having seen the trailer, I expected a horror, with a valentine's day theme. Kind of like My Bloody Valentine "back in the day" but it wasn't . At least it wasn't your "standard" horror. Yes it contained a serial killer and a lot of slashing. The movie itself was a romantic comedy, most of the times, especially in the beginning.
At first I thought to myself "what am I watching?" But I thought the movie got better towards the end and fulfilled it's horror genre a bit more.
I didn't expect the ending, but about halfway through I had an idea of who and what.
Solid movie, although not what I expected.

I went into this one with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised! The dialogue was sharp, the acting exactly what it needed to be for this movie, the music was interesting, and there were some SICK kills. The people whining about it not taking itself too seriously are taking themselves too seriously. The end was corny as hell... and it made me smile, b3cause it was exactly what had been set up from the beginning. I'll definitely watch this one again, and I know I'll enjoy it every time.
I was super impressed with both lead actors. They looked very young, but both were very good in these roles!

From earlier this year is this horror film which has its dismembered heart in the right place. Olivia Holt works as a pitch designer whose job is on the line when a new hire, Mason Gooding, comes into her company to shake up the status quo. Did I mention a serial killer targeting lovers is on the rampage & has just moved to Holt's city? Well, she finds this out rudely when a work date w/Gooding at her apartment is interrupted by the killer who begins to chase the pair around the city, along w/a pair of cops, Devon Sawa & Jordana Brewster, who hope to stop the bloodshed. When it's not featuring copious amounts of gore, the humor (Christopher Landon co-penning brings his own brand of mirth to the proceedings) is pretty winning w/our heroes up for the challenge which w/the current spate of horror films always on the release, this one manages to distinguish itself from the bloody pack.
