No Fishing Allowed: The Liberal Plan to Decimate an Entire Industry

Incredibly frustrating to see what the current governments are doing to the BC fishing industry.

This next round of potential closures will cost BC fishing families and their communities $100 million annually in lost revenue.

To make it even harder to swallow is that BC is being sacrificed for the east coast and arctic oceans. BC currently has 34% of our waters protected yet the arctic and east coast are hovering around 10%.

Also infuriating is that the federal government used $600 million tax payers dollars and the province of BC $60 million to bribe First Nations to go along with this mess under the guise of reconciliation.

Thank you Aaron for shining a light on this dire and ridiculous idea.

Being a fishing family has always been a challenging life, but every year it gets harder and harder to make an honest living. We want to fish sustainably, we want to continue our families legacy, and we want to feed Canadians quality, nutritious, local food. Policies made in the absence of sound science undermines all we do.

Fishers are the biggest advocates for research, environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. Our livelihoods depend on it. We support marine management but that management needs to be based in science not political drivers.

This documentary did an excellent job cloning the history of fisheries management and the continual effort by the fishing industry to achieve environmental protection while sustainably harvesting. It's a scary time for fishers when policies ignore science, dismiss the workers and prepare to cripple an industry.
