Charlie is on the beach and asks a friend for charger "cause her phone is dead." She then looks at her phone and sees missed calls, her phone is clearly not dead. She has lot of battery left.

The airliner takes off as the volcano is erupting. It flies right through it and crashes. The runway at La Palma runs parallel to the coast, so that all takeoffs and landings are over water. (Who would point a runway right at any mountain?)

The family steals a van to reach the ferry in time. They drive through town as fast as they can. The owners don't even know where the family is heading, but - on foot - show up at the port seconds after the van arrives.
