Looking for something to take my 4 year old daughter to on a cold morning, added bonus as she's got a German grandma who recants stories about Heidi to her and she's become a bit fascinated by the "girl from the mountains". It's a very gentle and traditional little film that's noticeably more simplistic than the average Hollywood equivalent. First of all there's no strangely forced innuendo to keep parents entertained, there's a complete lack of forced modern societal commentary, and it's refreshing to show your child something that doesn't feel like a platform for James Corden or some other vacuous showbiz entity. It's slower paced, much less manic than average and yet my daughter was completely enraptured by the whole adventure.
Joe and his team clearly researched this project, it's very likeable and refreshingly non political. One thing you often feel with British media types touring middle America is a sort of smug distaste, Joe however manages to interview his subjects with genuine respect. Very enjoyable watching. Repeating for word count:

The swan scene was some of the funniest writing and imagery I've seen in years. Wonderful little universe these lot have conjured, neither bleak nor warm. Consistently witty with lots of surreal energy throughout, Ele McKenzie's performance has me in tears of laughter as does the rest of the cast.
I can see some stylistic influences, the isolation, surreal aspects and Irish patter of Father Ted as I definitely see a land bridge like connection between the Eoin McLove episode and these guys.
Looking forward to see what they'll get up to agai, I hope more episodes pronto pls thanks xo xo xo.xo.
