I remember watching this while Game of Thrones was all the rage. I watched that too, but this was the show I was more excited about. I've never watched a series as an adult more than once. Except this one. I have watched this seven times. The layers and threads are subtle and complex. The layers are done in a way that people who want to simply enjoy the obvious will enjoy the ride. The scenery, characters and sets are amazing. But for those who enjoy the intricacy of character development, and the ability to capture each character's unique motivations and goals that may seem contradictory to one viewing superficially, others will see the thin line that exists in all of us on how we determine what's right or what's wrong.
It may be I was underwhelmed because I was so excited to see the film. I grew up on the heels of Bob Dylan so we all always considered him brilliant. I thought this may allow me a behind the scenes look at him.
It seemed just a chronological array of scenes without concern for character development or a story arc. I mean... it does end with a certain point, but it just doesn't engage you. If you weren't a fan of him, I doubt you would suddenly turn into one.
SPOILER: He's an artist who becomes super famous, sleeps with tons of women, becomes engrossed in his own popularity, and helps revolutionize "folk" music.

My wife and I have enjoyed other period shows such as Downton Abbey, Bridgestone, and The Gilded Age. My wife discovered this show, but I was concerned because it only lasted two seasons. We started it and immediately loved it.
When we got Season 2 we were perplexed why it could only last a bit longer. Season 2 introduced a few new characters and was even better than the first season. We were grateful that the season ended with closure. It was definitely set up well for a Season 3 with a new storyline, but not on a cliffhanger where one may have felt unsatisfied.
We both recommend this show and we hope you will do so as well.
