Paulicéia Mário de Andrade

A nice and humored tribute to the legacy of famous Brazilian author of Modernism the great Mário de Andrade and his most famous creation, the lazy native Macunaíma - later immortalized in the 1969 film version starring Grande Otelo and Paulo José in the leading roles.

Here, in this animated short film, Macunaíma is a horror creature created by the Frankenstein-like scientist (dubbed by Pascoal da Conceição, famous for his several portrayals of Andrade in other miniseries and plays) and with the power of energy and inspiration his creature conquers Brazil and becomes president of the nation, but not accomplishing much he's in the office.

The film uses of several of Andrade's works to compose its action and story, and it's amazing that a collage of works and references can be done in just one minute. For those who know the author's works it'll be a highly enjoyable picture. I'm just a beginner so I didn't recognise much of what it's shown in terms of animals, characters and quotations..but in time, giveth time. I liked for what it tried to do and what it accomplished: in presenting to modern audiences the important legacy of one of Brazilians most celebrated authors. Thumbs up. 8/10.
