Led by a warrior named Andy, a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it is up to Andy and Nile, the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary. Starring Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the film is released July 10 on Netflix.

    Great potential. Ultimately mediocre

    I really wanted to like this film. It's got a simple but fun premise and it's got Charlize Theron, who's a fantastic actress. But the film is just marred by plot holes, cliched characters, tacky dialogues and hands down the most inadequate music possible for this film.

    It's still a passable action film if you have absolutely nothing else to watch.

    Lost potential

    There were just so many clichés, cringe, and naive moments. The dialogue was also simple. The music was not all that good. The antagonist had a cartoonish evil character.

    Entertaining, would have been a better series

    Easy viewing, great fight choreography and action scenes. The plot was simply and predictably executed but remained entertaining throughout. Great individual performances but would of been better as a series to allow for some proper character development.

    Thoroughly enjoyable - except the soundtrack

    Really loved the action, the acting and the melancholy feel to it all, much better than just an average action flick, except unfortunately for the incredibly stupid and jarring popsongs which ruin some scenes. Please please please just a decent score for (hopefully) part two. Other than that, really no complaints.

    mediocre

    The premise was good, but they didn't got to do something interesting with it. It was kind of a bore all the way. Also, the soundtrack is one of the worst I've ever witnessed in a movie.

      Greg Rucka wrote the first draft screenplay, but when Charlize Theron came aboard, she had a number of issues with it. These were raised in a conference call with Theron, which Rucka described as "one of the worst experiences of my career". He did another rewrite but was then fired. Theron's production company commissioned a new script from new writers but Netflix hated that version. When Gina Prince-Bythewood came on board, she recommissioned Rucka, who was able to patch up his differences with Theron.
    • Blooper
      When Booker hands Andy the unloaded HK USP, she should have noticed. Anyone as familiar with weapons as she is would notice the weight difference between an unloaded gun and a loaded one. The balance of the gun without bullets in a polymer handle would also be very noticeable. Nile, as a marine, also would have noticed when Andy gave it to her.
