Recensione in evidenza
Tapan das (Rohit) is superb and unmatchable. He lives a poignant life, stirred by dark agendas and could be violent if shattered. Munin Baruah has cleverly shown that his own mind being his most brutal enemy. He has a brother (Rahul), funny and social, unlike him but shares childhood memories that emotionally ties him with his brother. Rohit is grief-charged character with a pessimistic view of life, hides his true self from all and leads a double standard life. He falls in love with a girl who loves his brother Rahul. That's makes him unforgiving and does the wrong deed.
Suspense flows through it and it ends in unhappy ending. Tapan Das is the brightest point in the film. He grips the entirety through his saddening emotions throughout. Mayabini, the song is so heartfelt that it echoes still among the heart wrenching experiences esp in love. Rohit's uncompromising nature makes him a fearful villain, who kills himself at the end for the sake of little goodness that he shares with his brother. The ending is sad, family is shown to be broken and love united. Munin Baruah's Daag reflects the victory of good upon evil not in any social level but within a family where unity love and happiness stands against jealousy, selfishness and isolation. The girl choses the good which makes the villain more grief stricken. You will feel bad for the villain and will keep on thinking about his feelings afterwards. The direction too is good where visuals are dominated by sad atmosphere.
Nevertheless Daag is depthfull character study within a small boundary having two families, showing the consequences of passion and selfishness in one's life. This film also gives the message that evil will be finally destroyed by itself. The good need not to destroy it. Only the good need to be retained as good. A 79/100.
