When a group of give teenagers head into detention, only four of them come out alive.
It's a bit of a mix between Scream and Thirteen Reasons why, if you're a fan of those shows, you may well enjoy this.
It's a good series, it's very watchable, it is guilty of delivering every single cliche under the sun, of course the central characters are all attractive, of course one is wealthy, of course there's the prom...
One of the issues I had, is that it doesn't really care to do anything particularly different, there's nothing exactly new here, apart from the low count.
It is a little padded in the middle, it was perhaps guilty of being perhaps two episodes too long, the first and last two perhaps the best of the series.
It looks nice, the music is great, it's visually very appealing.
7/10.

Like most of the US' teen TV shows, One of Us Is Lying still displays characters that look too old as a high school student. It's a bit creepy, to be honest.
But, despite that, it's an engaging murder mystery entwined with your daily dose of teen drama. A very binge-worthy show. Until they did a slight alteration with the finale.
Gone is the intensity of the climax and the satisfying epilogue of the book on which the show is based. Replace with your typical bland soap opera twist that clearly is a bridge to the next season. I'm so sorry, but because of that, I've lost my interest to follow their next story.

It could have been better, but it was a pretty interesting show that kept me vested considering I'm 36 and this show is about a bunch of high schoolers that "find themselves" after being accused of murdering a peer. As far as high school shows go, it was one of the better series. I hate shows that have supposed to be 16 year-olds looking 25 and acting 35 (I'm talking to you, Pretty Little Liars and Riverdale), but this one was fairly believable and didn't give the characters too much credit, like other shows where a 16 year-old has numerous unexplained financial resources and seems to be smarter than any FBI agent or detective in town. Not great, but good.
I usually enjoy these types of shows. Although when watching the trailer, my first thought was "Oh look, Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars combined!"
I wasn't completely wrong. Nevertheless, I quite enjoyed watching it. But I am so over the cliche portrayals of the young people (nerd, athlete etc...) and also I'm getting really tired of 25-something people playing higschool students. Bronwyn was the Spencer and Cooper was Emily of the PLL.
Once almost everyone got ruled out as a suspect it could only have been that one person. Which I am okay with. What I'm not ok is how the whole thing ended. Not gonna spoil anything for you, it was a pretty decent watch if you can omit some stuff.

Completely different plot line than the book (though of course keeps the same gist), but honestly I found it just as enticing and complex. This version gives you more complexity and sympathy for Simon, more of maeve in her own spotlight, and still keeps you guessing til the end. Wonderful cast and production, plus room created to further another storyline!
