Dans les rues

Only three films in set designer Victor Trivas 's filmography ;"dans les rues" is his single French effort and it's a pity he did not make more movies ,for her film was filmed on location in the outskirts of Paris .

The music is omnipresent ,beginning with "it's a long way to Tipperary." and including songs and accordion music .

The story is a melodrama depicting humble people 's life ;Jacques ,a tormented soul, does not want to work like his friend Maurice does; much to his widowed mom's chagrin,he joins a gang of poverty-ridden juvenile delinquents to seduce the girl he loves.

Directing is often dazzling ,particularly the final scene,when the bad boy gets back on the straight and narrow ; a scene where a good man is manhandled by a shrew and the populace is not unlike Duvivier (who would resume the scapegoat subject in "panique " (1946)

"Dans les rues" is also a breeding-ground for newcomers : Jean-Pierre Aumont , Madeleine Ozeray and Paulette Dubost would enjoy long careers afterwards ; Jean-Marais also appears as an extra ,but it's difficult to spot him .
