The Last Train

Superintendent Duggan is on the hunt for the killer of Edward Hunt, a quiet unassuming man who kept himself to himself.

I've seen a couple of these episodes, and this is perhaps the best and most interesting of them so far, quite an engaging Mystery this.

Even though we weren't introduced to Hunt, he was definitely an interesting character, private and mysterious, with a beautiful, younger wife.

There are definitely a few points of interest here, the details surrounding the realisation that it was murder, and not suicide, that was well done, and of course there's something pretty sinister about a murder being committed on the final tube of the day.

There are a few familiar faces here to enjoy.

A ported finds the dead body of Edward Hunt on the last tube train of the evening.

It looks like Hunt committed suicide. Until his wife mentions that he was left handed, the gun was placed in his right hand.

Superintendent Duggan investigates. Hunt worked for a newspaper, hardly talked to his workmates and had no other interests apart from roses. They were shocked that he got married to a much younger Belgian woman.

Hunt met his wife in a club where Hunt was learning French. Hunt's mother who moved into a home thinks that his wife twisted him around her fingers. She would regularly go to Belgium to see her family. Hunt had to pack his mother off to an old people home when he married.

It does not take much to work out that the club where Hunt met his wife arouses interest. Also Hunt's wife might have something to hide.

A Swiss watch and some money Hunt had withdrawn from his bank account are the main leads for Duggan.

A brisk efficient thriller. It's very much a meats and potato story that holds few surprises.
