Simply Amazing

Only a few words come to mind after watching this film, and those are, in slang, OMG... It is simply fantastic. The cast was very well chosen, the direction was right on target, and the overall "pazzazz" of the film was high and mighty.

Funny

This is a funny satire of the whole chat room thing. An unflinching and painfully hilarious look at the secret lives of the most unsuspecting people. I'd like to see the writer/director of this short to break into feature film. This man is a genius.

Where oh where is the funniest thing I saw in 2001?

This short had me howling at the accuracies of my chat room addiction days of the late 90's. I really wish I could find a copy of this somewhere, so very well thought out and executed. I believe this won the Sundance "Best Short" award, or something to that effect, for 2001.

So cool

I love short films, but but this was more than I expected. It was simply cool beyond words. And the twisted ending was brilliant. Overall, more than worth spending the ten minutes or so to watch it. Its sort of weird trying to figure out what's going on, and once you do it is just hilarious. I enjoyed the mind games.

Frighteningly realistic

Anyone who has ever wasted time in a chat room needs to see this short film. It cleverly, accurately, and chillingly depicts the world behind the computer screen. THE PARLOR will evoke nervous laughter as you recognize yourself in one of the many archetypal chat room denizens: psycho flamer; boy band freak; on-the-make middle-aged married guy; bored, sex-obsessed teen; closeted homosexual; and more.

From his filmography, Geoffrey Haley appears to be a protege of Alan Ball, creator of HBO's Six Feet Under. It would interesting to see if he gets any writing or directing gigs on that show.

This short coincidentally had much in common with the real life crimes of Lorne Lynn Armstrong. The character of "Jerry" has a similar appearance to Armstrong (bald head) and is chatting with an underage blonde girl who has a boyfriend named "Derek". In real life, Lorne Armstrong was caught by the vigilante group Perverted Justice for chatting online to a decoy posing as an underage blonde girl who was named "Kayla" ad surprisingly had a so-called ex boyfriend named Derek. This all happened in 2007 (six years after this short). Armstrong was later caught and exposed on NBC's To Catch a Predator episode, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
