The Cartoon Horror Show

Grim and Evil, aka The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, has been the show on Cartoon Network that's a kiddie version of any horror content, but managed to succeed on that. Yeah, maybe some like Irwin's obsession with Mandy that can be repetitive can keep this from being the best series Cartoon Network has produced. But at least the show has gotten to present its nature. Having a cartoon spooky series about supernatural creatures and when they enter the modern society. Which would make the premise work about how Grim was forced to become Billy and Mandy's servant. The animation is greatly crafted presenting the supernatural worlds we would see in the show. And a lot of characters are hilarious, especially with Billy's dumb shenanigans. Normally for this series, it would be for the kids to show what supernatural would look like. But I mostly recommend this for people that are like me and are nostalgic for this and are true Cartoon Network fans that miss the old days. I know this is a cartoon show, but at least the show could've lasted a little longer. I do understand how the show was cancelled due to Maxwell Atoms' contract from Cartoon Network has expired. But as someone that has grew up with Cartoon Network from the 2000s, this series has brought the memories for good laughs.

Amazingly entertaining!

This show has gotta be of of my favorite childhood cartoons! The story revolves around two kids and the Grim reaper, what could be better?! The show contained some gross and dark humor through out which made it fun. In some episodes the humor got out of hand which led to my parents turning off my TV. The main characters were Billy, no brained moron who would make even emo's smile. Mandy, a dark evil devil child who would make fun of the other two characters. And Grim, A Grim reaper who was bound to be the two children's best friend for ever, after failing to win a limbo competition. There are many other supernatural creatures throughout the series that mock Grim because of having to live with human kids.

I really love this show, I'd give it a 9 out of 10

Excellent Show Just for Kids! Morbidly funny

This is one of the best cartoons of all time. One of my childhood favorites. I first heard the theme song when I was about 10 years old and I love the "Destroy us all!" part. It's fun for kids to watch for ages 5-12! Morbidly funny yet gross and disgusting. You know it's like Invader Zim meets Are You Afraid of the Dark? Well, the character designs look pretty great but I am IN LOVE with Mandy's character designs!

About the characters, I rated it a 10/10 because they are excellent. Billy is my favorite character. He's very hilarious, goofy and a bit enthusiastic. Mandy hasn't worn any Goth clothes yet but she's very cynical, merciless and never smiles. In the Grim & Evil episodes, she is shown smiling but the world didn't implode yet. The Grim Reaper is awesome! I like some characters such as Eris, Hoss Delgado, Irwin, Dracula, Nergal, Nergal Jr., Jeff the Spider, Harold, Jack O'Lantern, Velma Green, Boogeyman and Fred Fredburger. I hated Mindy, Pud'n and Sperg!

About the music, it's kinda catchy. I love those tunes! The music is very awesome! It makes a Danny Elfman vibe. I'm so excited!

For the excitement, this is awesome. I love the episodes. My favorite episodes of all-time are Attack of the Clowns (funny), My Peeps (very funny!), Little Rock of Horrors (I love the catchy tune), Grim in Love (with an awesome character, Malaria) and Mandy the Merciless.

Back when Cartoon Network was good!

This reviewer remembers very fondly the times where Cartoon Network was one of her most watched channels as a child, along with Boomerang, like it was only yesterday. With so much pleasure gotten out of watching gems such as 'Dexter's Laboratory', 'Courage the Cowardly Dog', 'Ed, Edd and Eddy', 'The Powerpuff Girls' as well as the Scooby Doo franchise until it aired instead on Boomerang. Those days were long gone after they gradually aired less frequently and then stopped being aired, and when scheduling was in recent years dominated by abominations like 'Johnny Test', 'Uncle Grandpa' and the reboots.

While not as big a childhood favourite as the aforementioned shows, 'The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy' still stood out. The idea of the show was very interesting, though was worried as to how mixing funny and dark themes would work and end up being in good taste. As a child, it was still absolutely great, especially for the characters and writing. Despite ending sixteen years ago, 'The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy' still is wonderful and has held up incredibly well. For me, it was one of the last truly great Cartoon Network, which just isn't the same now, shows.

It is hard knowing where to begin with the praise when everything is so great. The animation is great, and reminded me of the visual styles of many other Cartoon Network shows airing at the same time in character designs (i.e. 'Cow and Chicken', 'I Am Weasel') but with a strong emphasis on darker colours and shades and suitably macabre, Gothic touches not seen before to this extent on Cartoon Network. A great job is done immersing one into the world. There have been plenty of catchy theme tunes/songs in Cartoon Network history, and 'The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy' doesn't disappoint there accompanying the very clever titles sequence. Really liked the quirkiness and haunting quality of the music.

Love the character, Mandy is both hilariously deadpan and sinister, Billy has a goofy enthusiasm that is endearing and didn't feel overdone (he is an idiot but a funny one) and Grim is creepy in exterior and personality and with great comic timing and also at times the relatability factor because of how he is treated. The chemistry between the three is truly delightful. The voice acting is top notch, with Mandy being some of the best, most entertaining and most versatile voice acting Grey Griffin (known as Grey DeLisle at the time) has ever done.

Same with the writing, which is incredibly smart and laugh out loud funny. As well as deliciously dark and bold, the show does get away with quite a lot but to me it wasn't inappropriate and was what made the show so unique at the time. The concept was along with 'Courage the Cowardly Dog' and 'Dexter's Laboratory' one of the most imaginative in Cartoon Network history and the execution of the storytelling was full of energy, daring exploring of grown up, dark themes and entertainment value, with no repetition or laziness.

All in all, fantastic and one of the last Cartoon Network classics. 10/10.

This Show is awesome and Billy is my favorite character.

Hey guys its me RegularShow1 here and today I'm going talk about The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy(A.K.A)Grim and Evil. This show is about two kids named Billy and Mandy who make a bet with the Grim Reaper who losses and has to be there friend forever. You might think this show is scary because it has do with The Grim Reaper but its not. Anyway the show was originally called Grim and Evil Which aired on Cartoon Network form Friday, August 24, 2001 to Friday, October 18, 2002 and there was also a show called Evil Con Carne which also ran on Cartoon Network form July 2003 to October 2004. Anyway I didn't like this show until I saw an episode in California in June 2005 Called "Duck" which was pretty funny and I started to like in 2007. Anyway I'm giving this a 10 out 10 stars. I'm RegularShow1 saying have a nice day. BYE

another great show

I really LOVE this show, it is great, it is another show that uses dark humor

I really love the characters Mandy is a girl that never smiles and always gets what she wants, she is my favorite character in this show, next is Grim, a Grim Reaper who lost a bet and is now forced to be Billy's and Mandy's friend forever and billy who is a complete idiot but unlike most idiots in cartoons today, he is funny and not annoying

I really hate that when this show got cancelled Cartoon Network Europe Instantly Removed it forever, just fail, it is a show that many kids and adults can enjoy

Good show that has its moments.

The Grim Adventures of billy and Mandy(or Grim and Evil depending where you live)is an OK show that while sometimes just gross is sometimes really funny. The show is about Billy and Mandy who trick the Grim Reaper into being their best friend forever. Mandy is a somewhat troubled girl who smiles about twice in the whole series(once in an episode where shes in a beauty pageant and when Billy is seeing things). This show is a lot better then most of the shows that go onto cartoon network and although will probably not be a famous shows is a great show through and through. The show must make quite a lot of money as loads of kids watch it and they've made movies and games of it now. Overall I rate this 62%.

Very Creative Cartoon, but the Humor's a Little Too Raunchy for Kids

The Cartoon Channel scored big with this lovely little cartoon. The stories and characters are very wonderful. The macabre stories take their cues from earlier and equally good children's cartoons, such as "The Real Ghostbusters" and "Ahh! Real Monsters," as well as from such eclectic sources as the stories of H.P. Lovecraft and Harry Potter and even from the Kustom Kulture artwork that featured Rat Fink. I've only seen a few episodes, but the cartoonists and voice actors have really made an enjoyable cartoon that mixes the supernatural with goofy comedy.

I do have some quibbles with this cartoon, and I'm sure that there are many people who agree with me. The animation style is part of a trend that focuses on deliberate crudity and outrageousness. The characters' personalities are manifest in the way they are drawn, which is surrealistic and crude, with thick lines and sharp edges; cartoonist Christopher Hart calls these types of 'toons "edgy 'toons." I know it's a hip style that the Cartoon Channel seems absolutely ape for, but, having been raised on the classic and complex styles of Disney and the Looney Toons, the crudeness of the animation style edgy 'toons doesn't quite win me over. I get the impression that the "Grim and Evil" cartoonists simply don't put in as much effort as their predecessors did in the days of yore. I also don't like that Cartoon Channel is marketing "Grim and Evil" towards young children, when the humor---again, much in the vein of the wild and crazy "edgy 'toons"---- is gross enough to be considered adult. "Grim and Evil" out-Ren-and-Stimpys "Ren and Stimpy" with its constant and explicit discussions and demonstrations of bodily functions, like boogers and bathroom humor. One episode featured one of the children stating that his mother was undergoing menopause. I think this is a little too adult for the demographic the Cartoon Channel is looking for. This cartoon is great for teenagers and adults, though; they are also the ones who may actually understand the homages to horror writers or older cartoons that may go over the heads of little kids.

Overall, this is a decent cartoon. Be sure to watch it, but if you're a parent, exercise caution if you have young ones.

Move over Ren and Stimpy...

A show that is actually quite fascinating for how grotesque it is. I think it might even be the rightful heir to Ren and Stimpy.

Frequently really gross and crass but at least it is up front about what it is so you're never that shocked to see they went there.

I feel bad for Grim. Mandy is such a C-word that it just makes the show feel tragic not comedic.

If you're in the mood for something off the wall with no continuity where anything can happen from Aliens to robots to demons to time travel (the Grim Reaper Character is often nothing to do with these happenings) it can be a bit of boyish fun that was envisioned with remarkable passion.

But in terms of substance it's pretty trashy.

I love this cartoon!!

weird. but it is, in a good kind of way. I watched it and it is really funny, both parts of the show are really funny. I kind of like it better than the Powerpuff Girls. I hope the show becomes more popular 'cause it is one of the best new cartoons. I have to admit that there is some gross stuff like the bear's butt. That is mostly why its so funny. Don't listen to some people who say it sucks because it dosn't. There is no cheesy animation it has a clever plot. Those few people just don't have a really good sense of humor. So if you've never watched it before, WATCH IT!! If you like to laugh this cartoon show is for you.

A creative, funny, and original show. One of Cartoon Networks best.

This is a great show. Voice acting is great, characters are great, jokes are great, it's great. Unlike other Cartoon Network classics this does have a few flaws. It does have some jokes that do fall flat, there is some annoying moments, and it has very juvenile humor. Despite that it is a very good show. When it comes to weird things happening this is up their with "Courage" in the creativity department. The animation is also very nice. The characters have a few memorable people. There's Grim the ender of lives stuck being friends with two kids. There's Billy the biggest idiot in the universe. Then there's my favorite Mandy. This is the most evil girl I've ever seen. She beats people up, never smiles unless giving an evil grin, and she bosses around The Grim Reaper like a butler. She is the most most badass chick ever. As for side-characters there isn't much to say unfortunately. They just aren't very memorable. As for villains I like Jack, Nergal, and Nergal Jr. Especially Jack. So overall Billy and Mandy is a great show in my opinion, but its flaws make it understandable not to like the show.

gets away with murder

This has got to be the best cartoon network show of all time.

The show originally started as a show called grim and evil. But the evil part was soon dropped and became one show following Grim, Bill and Mandy. The show uses gross out humour which is probably the only show of it's kind now next to ren and stimpy. The thing about this show is that it's too dark to be a kids show it literally gets away with murder with it's humour and story lines and just it's plain weirdness like when billy starts to work with cthulu. The show will not be stopped and should hopefully continue for a long time unless they show something really offensive or not suitable for kids TV which i think will be very soon.

All in all this show is amazing funny and witty and fast on it's feet and well worth a watch unless you censor your kids from it.

A household favorite!

Most of the episodes leave questions unanswered, but it just goes to show that not all answers need questioning... The show is stupid enough, but that's the entertainment. I love this show, always have, and now my kids do too. It's funny, dark, and absolutely entertaining.

Mandy Steals The Show

I love this TV show. Its dark theme is such a nice alternative from all the other cartoons on Cartoon Network. The series follows Billy and Mandy as they torment the Grim Reaper after coming to 'own' him after he attempted to take away Billy's pet hamster.

The idea of taking something as harrowing as death itself and turning it into a kids cartoon is a really good one and works extremely well. The fact that this show could so easily have been chilling really benefits it. If the theme was taken the other way and told darker this show would make a great film.

The character of Mandy in particular is so refreshing. In comparison to Billy who is basically an identikit of every single other cartoon character on the channel; stupid, clumsy etc, Mandy is a sinister little girl and so entertaining to watch. She is the perfect match for the Grim Reaper. You can always can count on her to do one horribly twisted little thing each episode is hysterical.

I strongly recommend this cartoon, if only to see the deadpan little Mandy. Shes so evil.

Great children's satire of adult life

This show is downright genius at some point with parodies of modern pop icons, political figures, and historical events. Not only this small tidbit to keep most entertained but the black comedy is so good that most adults and intelligent kids will get it. For me a person who enjoys heavy metal, gothic subculture, and cynical dark humor this show rang my bell, tickled my fancy, and is the bees knees all in one.

A Highly Irregular Gem

I watched many cartoons growing up as a kid. Spongebob, The Fairly Odd parents, and all the classic Hanna Barbera tunes were just some of my favs when I was little- but I didn't realize how great cartoon network could be until I first saw this show.

The plot as this show, as any who have seen it have realized, is absolutely insane- but so incredibly delightful that it's hard to stop smiling throughout. It's charming, witty, silly, and incredibly stupid in the best way possible, and I couldn't reccomend it more.

Sadly it's been hard to find to watch these days, with reruns being non-existent for this show now, and it only being able to be viewed on the obscure streaming service Hoopla.

Please cartoon network, re release this fantastic show on some new DVDs or Blu-rays so many more could have this viewing experience for further generations to come.

Childhood classic

Like with Edd Ed and Eddy this show is right up there with it.

This was so great it can be hilarious, scary and serious at the same time. When we are going on wacky adventures with Billy, Mandy, Grim and the rest of nice and the not so nice creps in this show.

It has good animation and great music from the intro to the ending.

Also good voice acting.

It has definitely aged pretty well for it's time.

I also remember watching some episodes of the india/asia version and honestly, they ruined it by renaming all of the characters, changing their original voices and censoring it from its original. No offence to anyone who has watched, grew up or likes that version. But for me they ruined it.
