The War on the War on Drugs

Absolutely worth seeing!!!! I would watch it a hundred times over just for Nimbus the Elder and Frogman!!!! All the factual information pertaining to the drug war is also quite interesting, if not mind-blowing! Soling is one the rare filmmakers of our era who pushes the limit of what should or shouldn't be said and/or filmed. I hope to see many more films from him and his company in the future. No one makes stuff like this. We as 'movie-viewers' owe it to the producers of these independent films for not being afraid to create the art that they believe in. I wasn't sure what I was getting into when I sat down to watch "the War on the War on Drugs"; please pardon the cliché, but all movies I see will now be referred as Pre-War on Drugs, and Post-War on drugs. And of the course I shouldn't fail to mention that the film is overall, just plain hilarious!! I can't wait to own the DVD!!

The summary on the back of the DVD had this to say about the movie: "Comedians look at the success and failures of America's relentless and often futile war against drug use." If by "Comedians" they mean people who attempt to be funny, then this is an accurate description of the movie. However, the key word in the above sentence is "attempt". If some ten year children with access to film equipment "attempted" to make a funny movie about America's useless war on drugs, I imagine it would turn out something like this movie. In the entire movie there was about five minutes of useful information and not one humorous sketch at all. I hope the 'comedians' have day jobs.

Whatever you do, don't rent this movie. If it ever makes it to t.v., which I doubt it will (except maybe on MST3000), you'll change the channel after about 2 minutes. Trust me on this one.

In the mold of The Groove Tube, The Kentucky Fried Movie, and Amazon Women on the Moon, The War on the War on Drugs is a funny and intelligently written movie that demonstrates why sketch comedy works so much better in the feature film format than on television. Although not every single sketch hits the mark, the majority do. Especially funny are Carrie Keranan in Cooking with Carrie, Brandon Sneider in the Know Your Dealer sketch, and Kenny Marshall as "Sissy Boy" in the Dr. Burke sketch.

I had almost forgotten how much fun the feature length sketch comedy movie could be, but after watching The War on the War on Drugs my appetite has been whetted for more of these kind of movies and I am definitely looking forward to seeing more upcoming films in this little known genre.

One, the sketches were horribly written. The acting was terrible. And even though it was an ass load of film in the name of drugs, they really don't do much about truly educating the viewer. A lot of facts, with no real connections. In a time when the public needs to be aware of the positive side of recreational drugs, this movie only hinders the forward progress of many activists involved with bringing the farce that is The War on Drugs. I understand that they're supposed to be parodies, but its hard to get past terrible acting. Also, there were some extremely young kids in this film. They talk about letting kids make their own decisions, but isn't making a child that doesn't even look over the age of ten star in a film about drugs forcing it down their throats?

If you want a GOOD film about The War on Drugs and how it's slowly destroying our country, do yourself a favor and check out "American Drug Wars - The Last White Hope." The research is a LOT more solid, with interviews with ex CIA operatives, a pro-decriminalization JUDGE from California, Thomas Chong (when he was locked up), along with a string of other interviews with people that ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT.

F*ck this film, what a waste of my time, and the time of people who have fought hard for what these guys just flushed down the toilet. Congrats.
