Sex and the Country

This episode made me laugh from start to finish. The show has built such a good identity and character development at this point. The 4th season is incredible! By far my favorite!!!

Honestly, i've been binge watching the show for a couple weeks now and i just couldn't help but write a review about how good this episode was. No episode made me laugh this much over and over. It took lots of well executed characters development and well written piece of comedy to get us to where we are at this point. The kind of comedy that i think only works when you feel comfortable enough with the show.

And i gotta say, I expected a much higher rating when i came looking for this episode. Hence why i wrote the title. Which honestly i would say criminally underrated.

Season 4, Episode 9 ("Sex and the Country") feels like one of those moments where everyone is trying hard to fit into a life that doesn't quite sit right on them. Carrie is out in the country with Aidan, and you can feel how she wants to be the girl who's comfortable there - quiet, settled, surrounded by woods and dogs. She loves him, she does, but it's like she's wearing someone else's shoes. They fit, but they're not hers. The silence out there just makes the things she's been avoiding louder. Miranda is recovering from her eye surgery, and she's forced to let herself be vulnerable. She's so strong and self-contained, and here she has to accept help. You get to see that soft, scared part of her that she doesn't show often. Charlotte starts thinking about converting to Judaism for Harry. It's not dramatic, but it's meaningful. She's rewriting her picture of what her future can look like - not the perfect fairytale she always clung to, but something real that comes from her heart. And Samantha... bless her. She tries the whole country fantasy for about five minutes before realizing no. She needs the city, the energy, the spark. She's herself, and I love her for it. The whole episode is about belonging - where we think we're supposed to fit and where we do. Wanting to make love work, even when the shape of your lives don't line up. It's tender. It's a little sad. Nobody is wrong - they're just trying. You can see the beginnings of the end for Carrie and Aidan here. Not because there's no love, but because love by itself isn't always enough. Sometimes you just aren't built for the same life. It's honest. And it hurts in that quiet, familiar way.
