Oscar au bain

Balding, pudgy boulevardier Leon Lorin knows how to woo a lady. He shows up with flowers and a small gift: a bracelet. He plays the piano so she may sing. But the next day, he tries to press his advantage too early, and is told to go the baths.

By this I would guess the lady meant the public baths, where he may cool his heels and his ardor. But this one-joke comedy is mostly interesting to me because it's directed by Leonce Perret. Perret would star in his own series of situational comedy in which he appeared far more human than slapstick's typical clowns. Then, after 1916, he would disappear behind the camera, directing until his death in 1935.

Oscar is a womanizer (or would be so) ;he woos a new woman and wants to take her all along the streets of Paris. But his conquest prefers to come back to her mother's place .Undaunted ,he calls in to see her again but he's a bit too quick off the mark :he is rejected .Another attempt takes him aback: the woman he covets is in bed and she asks him to take a bath.

Leonce Perret ,in many of his works,would film on location and we can see the Place De La Concorde,the Rue Royale and the Madeleine church as they were in 1913.We even catch a glimpse of the Bois De Boulogne ,where chic people go for a stroll.
