Karvakuonot: Prinsessa Ruusunen

A classic fairy tale "Prinsessa Ruusunen" (English: Sleeping Beauty) is based on the Finnish adaptation by Martti Haavio. The verse retelling of the tale was originally released in the Finnish language book "Aarteiden kirja III: Oli kerran" (WSOY, 1956) (Swedish: "Min Skattkammare, Del III: Det var en gång"). Tale is also released as a book "Prinsessa Ruusunen" (WSOY, 1959).

A brief epilogue at the end includes a poem "Mistä sadut tulevat" by Kaija Pakkanen. It was originally released in the Finnish language book "Huilu hilpeä" (WSOY, 1976), and later in the book "Leikkimökin runokoppa" (Otava, 1982).

Premiered on Yle TV2 channel on October 25, 1983 as a part of the 149-minute television special to commemorate the thousandth episode of the Finnish children's magazine-type series Pikku kakkonen (1977). After the Karvakuonot takes a bow twice, the original film includes a brief epilogue where hosts Martti-Mikael Järvinen and Inkeri Mertanen share a poem "Mistä sadut tulevat" by Kaija Pakkanen to the puppet character Ransu. Re-releases include:

• A shortened 47-minute version of the thousandth episode of Pikku kakkonen (1977), now titled "Olipa kerran juhla...", was aired on April 21, 1984. It was also released on VHS in 1988 with the box title "Olipa kerran juhlat". It includes the original "Prinsessa Ruusunen" with epilogue. The puppet maker Eeva-Liisa Holma-Kinnunen is listed in the end credits.
• The second rerun in October 2, 1985 was shown as a part of the regular episode of Pikku kakkonen (1977), hosted by Vuokko Järvilehto. The second bow and the epilogue are missing. The director Olli Löytönen is listed in the end credits of the episode.
• The subsequent three-part mini-series "Karvakuonojen satuteatteri esittää" features the film as the first episode of the series, aired on January 19, 1989. The second bow and the epilogue are missing, but the new on-screen series/episode titles (with a brief end credits sequence) were added. Other episodes of the mini-series includes "Punahilkka" (English: Little Red Riding Hood) and "Mikki-Hiiri merihädässä", with the latter being the only "original" episode.
