United We Fall

Who would ever have thought that any television show with the great Jane Curtin could be this bad? What a waste of talent! Even she can't rescue this below par monstrosity. Another series with two precocious kids? How original. I gave it five stars, only because of Miss Curtin.

I had great hopes for this when I saw Will Sasso was staring. Then Jane Curtain's character is just wrongly directed and written. Her character could be improved/re-written. The wife's brother needs to be written out entirely. Tone down the laugh track. I do believe that the family could carry this show much better with the above changes

The funny parts are way further apart than what that insincere, repetitive, fake sounding laugh track suggests. I wanted to give it a chance but after 5 minutes of distant trench sounding 'ha ha ha ha ha', my skin was crawling to escape and I couldn't handle it any longer. A lot of new comedy series are using it also. They should stop trying to make every single little comment a funny moment and please get a supposed live audience from somewhere else other than a nightmarish dream soundtrack.

Do not expect much from this sitcom. I've watched the two episodes currently up and it is pretty much a copy of King of Queens (They are literally using the same set from King of Queens) but with the addition of children. I gave it 5 stars because Will Sasso is unquestionably funny and even though this sitcom is fairly vanilla, he can still get an occasional chuckle out of me. However, like other people have pointed out, the massive overuse of canned laughter is completely unbearable. I would be surprised if this sitcom lasted for more than two - three seasons since it is just reusing the same tired formula used by other sitcoms. Not completely terrible but definitely not anything new or original. It is something you leave on to entertain the kids while you make dinner.

Will Sasso is the only saving grace at this attempt at Roseanne Magic. But he can't do it alone. There is no way ABC can make a working class comedy while being politically correct. As a summer fill in it's ok but it should be short lived. The day of good fun comedies are over.
